Under 14 Roinn 'C' Shield Final

Dicksboro 4-8 O'Loughlin Gaels 5-11

It turned out to be a bad week on the hurling field for our Roinn 'C' under 14 team as we exited the championship a few days ago and lost this League Shield Final against O'Loughlin Gaels. O'Loughlins were making most of the running in the first half and were up by 1-5 to 0-3 after twenty seven minutes but a late rally from the 'Boro boys brought the HT score to Dicksboro 1-4 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-5.

O'Loughlin's maintained the pressure at the start of the second half, adding 1-1 within five minutes and the 'Boro always seemed to be playing catch-up. Despite this, we came back at O'Loughlins and after thirteen minutes there was only a point in it again in the Gaels favour, 2-6 to 2-7. O'Loughlins replied with 1-3 without reply in a deadly three minute spell for the 'Boro before we added two points to our score. This was, however, soon cancelled out with another Gaels goal. O'Loughlin's were now in a commanding position going into the last ten minutes of the match but they were knocked from their comfort zone when the 'Boro netted twice on the twenty fifth and sixth minute to make it a two point margin between the sides. It remained like this up to the twenty ninth minute when O'Loughlin's found the 'Boro net again and another point within a minute sealed our faith.

Under 14 Roinn 'C' Championship

Dicksboro exited the Roinn C U14 Championship last night at the first hurdle as they succumbed to a vastly superior Emeralds (Urlingford) on a 2-18 to 2-03 scoreline in well presented Freshford GAA grounds. Despite the final scoreline this bunch of Boro hurlers gave their all as they battled until the end against a team that were definitely punching below their weight, who had competed in Roinn B in the U14 League earlier this summer. Dicksboro opened against the breeze and were behind 1-8 to 0-2 at the break. In the second half the superiority of the Emeralds came to the fore to run out comfortable winners. Great credit to this bunch of U14s containing a good number of sprightly U12s who never gave up against overwhelming odds and to their mentors Michael Tyrell, Brian Tyrell & Tony Butler - their day will come. At the time of writing this Dicksboro outfit will contest the Roinn C Shield League Final v O Loughlin Gaels at 3.30pm this Saturday in St. Johns Park. Dicksboro Panel : Eamonn Morrissey, Tadhb Butler, Kieran Galvin, Conor O Mahony, TJ Stynes (capt), David Campion, Liam Brennan Smyth, Liam Stynes, Jack Condren, Mark Nolan, Cillian Timmons, Sean Foley, Charlie Buckley, David Delahunty, Gavin Walsh. Minor Roinn 'A' Hurling Championship

What was to be our preliminary round Championship match against Kilmacow this evening turned into farce when the opposition failed to turn up without notice. The referee, 'Boro panel, mentors and supporters had travelled to Mullinavat but all were left bemused with the lack of an opposition. In the end the referee threw in the sliothar with only one team on the field, the ''Boro duly scored a goal to secure the game.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' Championship

Dicksboro 1-9 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-18

After playing two epic games of hurling against O’Loughlin Gaels over the course of the last few weeks in the league that resulted in draws after extra time in each game, this Championship match was eagerly awaited. For most of the first half, it looked like we were heading for another game that was going to go down to the wire as after twenty nine minutes the sides were level at Dicksboro 1-5 O’Loughlins 0-8. The next few minutes, however were to change the course of the game as O’Loughlins added 1-2 before the end of the half, their goal coming crucially in the last seconds. Three more points in the first four minutes of the second half put the Gaels well on their way to victory and the game finished up at FT Dicksboro 1-9 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-18. This was a disappointing result, but one poor result does not make a bad team and we will have a opportunity in a few weeks to play these opponents again in the league semi final and hopefully get a better result.

Under 16 Roinn 'C' Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 4-6 Danesfort 1-14

Danesfort provided the opposition this evening in this Championship quarter final game held in Bennettsbridge. 'Fort took an early lead with two points but the 'Boro lads soon regained ground with two points and then took the lead with a gaol. The game ebbed and flowed for both teams in a hard fought contest that was destined to go down to the wire and it finished level at HT Dicksboro 1-4 Danesfort 0-7.

The second half started with an excellent 'Boro point but a Danesfort goal gave them the edge once more and should have given them the impetus to push on, however it was the 'Boro who enjoyed the better of the following exchanges, scoring 2-1 before Danesfort came back at us with five unnswered points, three of which came from frees. The sides were now level at Dicksboro 3-6 Danesfort 1-12. With about six minutes left, the advantage shifted in the 'Boro direction with a goal and a late rally of two points from Danesfort was not enough to make a draw of the game. Our semi final game will be against James Stephens and this is currently scheduled for Wednesday 29th August.

Panel: Gavin Byrne, Peter Lynch, Aaron Purcell, Billy Rowe, Cian Butler, Ronán Butler, Evan Carroll, Liam Walsh, Ormond Morrissey, Oisin Gough, Cormac Buggy, Brian Power, Alan Phelan, Robert Crotty, Dara Lynch.

Annual Golf Classic

Congrats to Seamus Rochford & his team in organising a hugely successful rescheduled annual golf classic last Friday (3rd August). Over 60 teams played with the weather holding up on both Thursday evening & all day Friday. Again the Dicksboro juvenile golfers also took part in the early morning - a brilliant innovation to the classic. When all the balls were struck, some lost ,some found and the scores totted up, the winning team of 2010, comprising Victor Smyth, Sheila Brennan & Ken Hovenden swooped to victory on a final score of 83 points. The winning juveniles were : Thomas Kenny, Edward Moylan, Aidan Nolan & Conor Doheny, who thoroughly along with all the other juveniles enjoyed the experience. Huge thanks to all teams, tee box sponsors & Kilkenny Golf Club for the magnificent days golf in the Dicksboro social & fundraising calendar.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' Hurling Championship

Don't let the final score od Dicksboro 4-16 Glenmore 2-10 fool you, this was a hard fought and close contest between these two teams in the preliminary round of the Duggan Steel Hurling Championship. The 'Boro lads opened up a commanding lead in the first half, winning by 1-8 to 0-1 after twenty four minutes but a couple of pointed frees from Glenmore and a goal with one minute of normal time remaining in the half kept them in the game, HT Dicksboro 1-10 Glenmore 1-3. The second half saw a much more determined Glenmore side as they kept eating into the 'Boro's lead and by the time twenty two minutes had passed, they had brought the game back to a two point difference, Dicksboro 1-15(18) Glenmore 2-10(16). It was time for a 'Boro reaction and that is exactly what we got, scoring 3-1 from play in the last eight minutes. We will now face O'Loughlin Gaels in the quarter final which is currently scheduled for this Sunday in Clara at 7pm.

Summer Camp

What a week was had by all in Palmerstown during the past week, as 158 kids participated in the first ever Dicksboro Summer Camp. From first appearances on Monday morning the Summer Camp kicked off in brilliant sunshine as a huge crowd descended on Palmerstown for a thoroughly enjoyable week of a multitude of outdoor games, fun activities & sports. Blessed with good weather for the most part, all present from the 6 - 13 yrs boys & girls, the brilliant juvenile coaches & the `old reliables` had an incredible week which will stay long in the memory of an otherwise `damp` summer of 2012. Midweek, a very proud county club hurler, Cillian Buckley accompanied by fellow county star Michael Rice excited the kids with their good humour, unending autograph signing and their display of hurling skills - what a moment in the Boro. Friday morning saw county goalie David Herity & Paddy Hogan woo the excited kids & some juvenile coaches !. To conclude a fantastic week, miniblitzes, a BBQ & refreshments for all brought down the curtain on the `best week of the summer of 2012`. Huge thanks must go to camp co-ordinators, Gráinne & John Timmons, seventeen incredible juvenile coaches from the GAA & Camogie club and stalwarts, Mick Byrne, Tony Dunning, Joe Phelan & others who all played their part in a brilliant & most enjoyable Dicksboro club event - here`s to 2013 !
