Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn C Football

Dicksboro's Roinn 'C' team put in a very good first half performance against Young Irelands today, but despite being on top they failed to convert their dominance to scores, driving a number of wides and that, coupled with a good opposition defence, meant that we were only leading at half time by 1-2 to 1-0. The second half was a different story with Young Irelands coming more and more into the game, scoring 3-1 before we got our first score(a point). Another goal followed for Young Irelands which sealed the game and a late flourish from the 'Boro left the full time score Dicksboro 2-4 Young Irelands 5-1. Our next match is against James Stephens.

Panel: David Campion, Liam Brennan Smyth, Brian Cleere, Mark Nolan, Jack Connolly, Tadhg Butler, Cillian Timmons, Kieran Galvin, Conor O'Mahony, Eoghan Moylan, Gavin Byrne, James Griffin, TJ Stynes, Liam Stynes and Eamonn Morrissey

Dicksboro 1-7 Thomastown 1-4

Our second Roinn A Football League game in four days was held this morning in Thomastown. The local team had the better of the starts, going three points up. The 'Boro side composed themselves and started to come back into the game and were only trailing by a point at halftime. The second half saw the 'Boro playing the better football as our back lines started to dominate and a brief rally by Thomastown that brought the game back to a single point was soon halted as our boys pressed on to win convincing winners.

Our next match in this league is currently set for Sunday 19th Feb at 11.30am in Palmerstown against Conahy Shamrocks.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn C Football

Following our recent drawn game against Kilmoganny our Roinn C team travelled to Bennettsbridge this evening to play the local team. Dicksboro had the better start, scoring first after seven minutes and playing well but the Bennettsbridge team came more and more into the game and made their scoring opportunities count. Their physical strength was showing and by half time we were trailing 0-1 to 4-4.

It would have been easy and understandable for this young 'Boro team to hang their heads and be on the receiving end of a drumming but that was not to be the case as they kept persevering, notching up 3-2 in the second half and continued to fight for every ball. Despite losing, they deserve full credit for their fighting spirit. FT Dicksboro 3-3 Bennettsbridge 6-7.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn A Football

A 6.30pm start to this first round game in the Roinn A Football League game against James Stephens, held in Palmerstown, meant that it was to be held under floodlights. Within two minutes of the start, the 'Boro were up by a goal after a Village player played a ball that was probably going wide, and the 'Boro forwards, not slow to take their chances, pounced and slipped the ball into the net. The first half went all our way as our first four scores, scored on second, sixth, thirteenth and seventeenth minutes were all goals. Two further points brought the half time score up to Dicksboro 4-2 James Stephens 0-0 in a half that the 'Boro totally dominated.

Three minutes into the second half a well struck shot from twenty five yards bulged the corner of the Village net and it appeared unlikely from that moment that we were going to lose this one. Both teams used up their panels for the remainder of what was a very good display from this young 'Boro team.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn C Football

The U14 football season kicked off with a fantastic show of enthusiasm & determination by the Dicksboro B`s in the Roinn C League v. Kilmoganny in Palmerstown on Sunday morning. Conceding two early goals ,one from a penalty, the Boro boys responded with a good goal. Soon after, the Kilmoganny lads were awarded a second penalty which was duly dispatched to the net. Dicksboro`s remaining score of the half was a point before conceding a fourth goal before half time to trail 4.00 to 1.01. Inspirational words by mentors, John Timmons, Declan Gough, Michael Tyrrell & Tony Butler during the interval, reaped a strong reward as the Boro boys totally dominated the second half but found scores to find. In a gritty determined display of football with all fifteen throwing their bodies on the line, including some sprightly U12s, the Boro boys held their opponents scoreless and struck late goals to draw the game on a 4-0 to 3-03 final scoreline - well done to all.
