JJ Kavanagh & Sons Joe Walsh Cup

Graiguenamanagh lead this match from start to finish to put us out of the Joe Walsh Cup. Our opponents were playing the better hurling in the first half, deserving their half time lead of Dicksboro 0-3 Graig 1-6. The second half was an altogether different affair as we dug deep to make a much better match of it. Twenty five minutes into this half we had made our way back to within two points of Graig and it looked like it could be anyone's game. Graig were to finish the strongest and had the luxury of introducing fresh legs. Their tally of 2-2 in the last seven minutes cast a distorted view on the final score of Dicksboro 0-11 Graiguenamanagh 3-12.

Panel: Donal Carroll, Podge Lacey, Ciaran Gough, JJ Hickey, Willie Cuddihy, Mikey Hayes, Aaron Mcdonald, Conor Maharaj, Michael Cotter, Mark Nolan, Colm Brady, Eamonn Campion, Graham Egan, Ger O'Donoghue, Mike Kealy.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Nth Hurling Championship

Dicksboro got off to a flying start tonight scoring five points in the first ten minutes to Galmoy’s point. The Boro lost Jamie Lynch to injury after five minutes of play being replaced by Podgy Lacey. Dicksboro’s first goal came after nineteen minutes by mixed efforts from Ger O’Donoghue and Eoin Gough with Ger getting the final touch. Peter Fitzpatrick then replaced an injured John O’Gorman. Points from Eoin Fennelly, Colm Brady and Eamon Campion kept the scoreboard ticking over before a goal and point from Eoin Gough just before half time.

HT Dicksboro 2-13 Galmoy 0-1.

As the rain started to fall during the second half the Boro boys had nothing to worry about with Galmoy only scoring two points in the first fifteen minutes of this half. With fantastic team work throughout the match the Boro managed a further 1-8 in the second half. Subs: Padraic White for Mark Nolan, Rory Morrissey for Ger O’Donoghue and Daniel Farrell for Eoin Gough. They cruised into the northern semi-final of the Junior B championship with a full time score of 3-21 to 0-6.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Championship

Our Junior B team had a very good start in this championship with a comprehensive win over neighbours, Threecastles, in Tullaroan. Leading from start to finish, no fewer than eight players registered a score on the night which is very encouraging considering that the game was played in dreadfully wet weather. While we were leading at halftime by 1-10 to 1-5, Threecastles did manage to pull the game back to within three points, but this is as close as they got as our team put their shoulder to the wheel again to close out the game with a full time score of Dicksboro 3-16 Threecastles 1-9.

Our next game is due to be held on Friday 15th July vs Galmoy

Panel: Aaron Duggan, JJ Hickey, Mike Hayes, Eoin Burke, Jamie Lynch(0-2), Ciaran Gough, Rory Glynn, Willie Cuddihy, Eoin Fennelly(1-2), Michael Cotter(0-1), Mark Nolan(0-1), Eamonn Campion(2-6), Collins Connolly(Capt) (0-2), Eoin Gough(0-1), Ger O'Donoghue(0-1), Podge Lacey for JJ Hickey(inj), Peter Fitzpatrick for Collins, Rory Morrissey for Ger O'Donoghue.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Joe Walsh Cup

The management team of Martin Gaffney, Noel Tyrell and Eugene Begley 'blooded' a number of our younger members into the adult section in this Junior B Joe Walsh Cup game against Mooncoin, namely Rory Morrissey, Eoin Fennelly, James Gittens, James Murphy and Alex Quinlan and to a man they all gave a very good account of themselves when called upon. Two other young men, Rory Glynn and Eoin Gough, who had fielded before at this grade continued to state their claim on their positions on this team by also putting in excellent performances. It was one of the older hands, Podge Lacey, however, who got the ball rolling with our first point and in the first half Eoin Gough was to add 2-1, Rory Morrissey 1-2 and Peter Fitzpatrick 0-1. The experience that Paddy Phelan brings to this team cannot be underestimated as he marshals the full back line of Darragh Tynan, Ciaran Gough and JJ Hickey. Ciaran, yet again, put in a very solid display. Mooncoin could only manage one point from play in the first half and this does not happen by accident, as the untiring efforts of Willie Cuddihy, Padraig White and Stephen Rochford reaped its rewards. HT Dicksboro 3-5 Mooncoin 0-3.

We had a very formidable half forward line of Peter Fitzpatrick, Eoghan Burke and Captain Collins Connolly and it was Eoghan's hard work at breaking down ball that allowed Peter to add 0-3 to his first half tally and Collins 0-2. Mike Kealy came on for Eoin Gough(inj) and put in a good effort, but not before Eoin had pointed from a free. Rory Morrissey also added to his half time score by putting over two more points to leave the FT score: Dicksboro 3-13 Mooncoin 0-7.

Panel: Paddy Phelan, Darragh Tynan, Ciaran Gough, JJ Hickey, Rory Glynn, Willie Cuddihy, Padraig White, Stephen Rochford, Eoin Fennelly, Peter Fitzpatrick, Eoghan Burke, Collins Connolly(Capt), Rory Morrissey, Eoin Gough, Podge Lacey, Mike Kealy, James Gittens, James Murphy, Alex Quinlan.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Hurling League

The match this evening against Bennettsbridge was the last in our group stage and a win was required to progress. In the first twenty three minutes of the first half the teams were level on no fewer than five occasions in this hotly contested game. Dicksboro were to score 0-9 in this half and incredibly six different players registered a score. Collins Connolly was the main play maker up front, providing vital passes to allow Michael Cotter and Sean Tyrell knock the ball over the bar. The 'Bridge men were finding it hard to break through our half back line of Podge Lacey, Willie Cuddihy and Padraig White, who were breaking down ball for Jessie Waters and Jamie Lynch (who covered an awful lot of ground and played very well). Paddy Phelan, on goal, dealt with a number of high balls and one shot on target without mistake.
HT Score: Dicksboro 0-9 Bennettsbridge 0-6.
The first five minutes of the second half was not a happy one from a 'Boro point of view as the 'Bridge added 2-2 to their halftime tally to lead by 0-9 to 2-8. However the game changed again on the sixth minute when Ger O'Donoghue got on the end of a flicked ball and sent it to the net from twenty five yards. One minute later Colm Brady collected a ball and sent it into Seanie Tyrell in the corner, who had time to spot Collins free in the box and deliver a pin point cross and the ould head made no mistake, goal. Three more points followed from the 'Boro without reply and halfway through the half the score was Dicksboro 2-12 Bennettsbridge 2-8. From this point on, however we failed to score, whilst the'Bridge added 1-4, the goal coming from a long range free that dipped between defenders and left Paddy no chance on the goal.
Final Score: Dicksboro 2-12 Bennetsbridge 3-12

Panel: Paddy Phelan, Darragh Tynan, Mikey Hayes, Eoghan Burke, Podge Lacey, Willie Cuddihy, Padraig White, Jamie Lynch(0-1), Jessie Waters, Peter Fitzpatrick(0-1), Michael Cotter(0-1), Colm Brady(0-1), Sean Tyrell(0-2), Ger O'Donoughue(1-5,0-4 from frees), Collins Connolly(1-1), Mike Kealy, Eoin Mc Cormack, Drew Phelan, Graham Griffin.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Hurling League

This game was a bit of a slow burner for our Junior B team, where we only managed to score 0-5 in the first half compared to Galmoy's 1-6. Three of these points came from frees, which were converted by Eamonn Campion and one each from Ger O'Donoghue and Peter Fitzpatrick. Peter added to his earlier point by scoring our first two points of the second half, one of which was struck over his shoulder on the right hand sideline. Galmoy, however had also added a further goal and a point to their tally and so with five minutes gone in the second half we were losing 0-7 to 2-7. After seven minutes the 'Boro were awarded a free approximately 100 yards out from the Galmoy goal which was taken by Eamonn and went straight to the net. Meanwhile Ciaran Gough was playing a very good game in the full back position as was Marco Ruesmann in midfield. More points were exchanged, but it was in the last seven minutes that the 'Boro men got the upper hand with a point from Eamonn Campion, a lovely ground struck goal from Mark Nolan and a final point from Sean Tyrell. Our Juniors lost out to a late goal scored from a 21 yard free on Sunday and when Galmoy were awared a 21 in the thirty second minute, it would have been cruel to lose in the same way. Thankfully, their effort was saved.

Final score Dicksboro 2-12 Galmoy 2-10.

Panel: Paddy Phelan, Jamie Lynch, Ciaran Gough, Brian O'Donoghue, Willie Cuddihy, Mikey Hayes, Padraic White, Mark Nolan(Capt)(1-0), Marco Ruesmann, Peter Fitzpatrick(0-3), Aaron Rowe, Michael Cotter, Graham Egan, Ger O'Donoghue(0-1), Eamonn Campion(1-7, 1-4 from frees) Podge Lacey, Mike Kealy, Collins Connolly, Cian Tynan, John O'Gorman, Sean Tyrell(0-1), Colm Brady.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Hurling League

Our junior B's travelled to Skeoghvosteen this evening to take on Black & Whites in atrocious conditions. Wind and rain lead meant that most of the game was played in poor light, the sun only coming out towards the end. As a result, there was never going to be any high scoring, and so it turned out with a final score of Dicksboro 0-6 Black & Whites 0-8, Dicksboro's scores coming from Michael Cotter, Eamonn Campion, Cian Tynan and a very good point from Willie Cuddihy. The ever young Collins Connolly as well as Michael Cotter put in a hard working performance.

Panel: Paddy Phelan, Jamie Lynch, Ciaran Gough, Podge Lacey, Willie Cuddihy, Michael Hayes, Rory Glynn, Marco Ruessmann, Michael Cotter, Peter Fitzpatrick, Paddy Griffin, Collins Connolly, Eamonn Campion, Ger O'Donoghue, Mike Kealy, Philly Byrne, Cian Tynan, Brian O'Donoghue, Drew Phelan, Graham Egan, Eoin McCormack.

Our next match is fixed for 25th May in Palmerstown at 7.30pm vs Galmoy

24th April 2011

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior B Hurling League

Under the expert guidance of management team, Noel Tyrell, Eugene Begley, Martin Gaffney and Phil Hogan this young team continues to develop into a formidable outfit. Today, we were up against Danesfort in Palmerstown and with the half time score reading 0-6 each, it was obvious we had a game on our hands. The 'Boro pressed on in the second half and were playing the better hurling, adding 1-7, the goal being our last score from Ger O'Donoghue, while Danesfort had added 0-3 up to that point. Following our goal, Danesfort did rally in the last few minutes and scored 1-2, but the 'Boro had done enough.

Final score: Dicksboro 1-13 Danesfort 1-11

We now have two wins out of three and our next game is fixed for 5th May in Clara at 7pm.

JJ Kavanagh Junior B North Hurling League:

A young Dicksboro Junior B team took on Graigue Ballycallan in Palmerstown this evening in their opening game of the North Hurling League. The 'Boro got off to a good start with an opening point from Eamonn Campion, followed by two from Peter Fitzpatrick before Ballycallan registered their first score. Excellent defending from our full back line of Darragh Tynan, Ciaran Gough and Eoin Burke kept Ballycallan at bay. Eamonn Campion added to his initial point by scoring a goal which was followed by points from Ger O'Donoghue, Conor Maharaj and another from Eamonn to leave the half time score: Dicksboro 1-6 Graigue Ballycallan 0-6.

This match was tightly contested throughout and the 'Boro made two substitutions in the second half, bringing on Aaron Rowe and Cian Tynan. Both were to put their names on the scoreboard with a point each. Points earlier in the half from Ger O'Donoghue(2) and Michael Cotter brought the 'Boro's final tally to 1-11, while the midfield of Jamie Lynch and Conor Maharaj joined up with an excellent defence to hold Ballycallan to 0-3 in the second half.
