Junior 'B' Championship

Dicksboro 0-14 James Stephens 0-13

Willie Cuddihy's return from injury helped to add that little bit of defensive experience that was needed to bring us over the line in this very tight game, held in Palmerstown. Of the twenty seven points scored in the entire game, twenty of them were scored in the first half. Paddy Cahill knocked over our first point from play before Collins Connolly added two from placed balls. The Village were matching us point for point when points from Craig Cahill and Shane O'Brien gave us a two point lead halfway through the half. The Village replied immediately with a point and the following four minutes brought a lot of scoring and defensive activity- first was a good Peter Turley point following a great catch, the resultant puck out went all the way into the 'Boro danger area and Darragh Holohan was called on to make a save, but a point from the Village followed soon after. Eoin McCormack was the instigator of our next score when his clearance from defence found Craig Cahill who put up his second point of the half. There was a lull of a couple of minutes before the Village added a brace and our last point of the half came from Shane O'Brien following an excellent individual effort. The Village were finishing best and they managed to tack on four unanswered points before the HT whistle blew at Dicksboro 0-9 James Stephens 0-11.

Collins Connolly got us off the mark at the start of the second half with a free which was succeeded by another pointed free, this time a long range effort from Enda O'Donoghue. Only four points in total came from play, one from the Village and three from the 'Boro, two of the 'Boro points instigated by Paddy Cahill and converted by Jamie Lynch and Ruairi Morrissey and the last came from James Murphy when the sides were level on twenty nine minutes to give us the lead and win.

Panel: Darragh Holohan, Eoin McCormack, Willie Cuddihy, Dylan Scott, James Gittens, JJ Hickey, Enda O'Donoghue, Shane O'Brien, Jamie Lynch, Paddy Cahill, Peter Turley, Peter Fitzpatrick, Craig Cahill, Ruairi Morrissey, Collins Connolly, Evan Cody for James Gittens, James Murphy for Peter Turley.

Junior 'B' North Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 2-8 Cloneen 0-7

Undoubtably the main talking point about this game was the weather conditions. It rained non stop throughout the game leaving the pitch almost unplayable with casual water lying throughout the pitch. The fact that the game was finished was a credit to both teams who served up a very competitive and exciting game.

This was the final round of the league aspect of the Championship. The result would decide who each team would meet in the first round of the knockout aspect of the Championship.

As mentioned the weather was the dictating factor resulting in very low scoring game. However Dicksboro got off to a very fast start a very well taken goal from Craig Cahill, and two points leaving them 1.02 to 0.01 after 10 minutes. Each team had two further points each over the next 20 minutes leaving the score 1.04 to 0.03 as half time approached. Then as the break loomed Dicksboro got the crucial score of the game. A rocket of a shot from Graham Egan rattled the Cloneen net and the Boro went in 2.04 to 0.03 at half time.

Cloneen staged a brief comeback with two frees in four minutes. A further free for Cloneen on the 12th minute matched a Collins Connolly point (score 2.05 to 0.06). From then on the Boro dominated the scoring with points from Ger O’Donoghue and two from Peter Turley with the only a response from Cloneen being a fourth free, leaving the final score 2.08 to 0.07.

This result places Dicksboro third in their group and they will now face James Stephens in the knockout stage of the championship. This game is currently fixed for this Saturday 28th July at 7.30pm, venue to be announced.

Panel: Darragh Holohan, Eoin Mc Cormack, Evan Cody, Drew Phelan, Enda O’Donoghue, JJ Hickey, Eoin Butler, James Gittens, Ruairi Morrissey, Ger O’Donoghue, Peter Turley, Peter Fitzpatrick, Graham Egan, Collins Connolly, Craig Cahill, James Murphy, Shane O’Brien.

Junior 'B' Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 3-12 Danesfort 2-15

A point from Collins Connolly after JJ Hickey's clearance from the half back line first found Craig Cahill who supplied Collins was a great start to this enthralling encounter in Palmerstown. Within a minute, Danesfort were on the attack and could have snatched a goal but for a goal-line catch from Stephen Dawson who put it out for a 65. By the time Danesfort scored their first point on eleven minutes, the 'Boro had already added two points from frees. 'Fort followed up with another point from a free and immediately after were unlucky not to score a goal when a low shot struck the 'Boro post. Our halfback line of Podge Lacey, JJ Hickey and Eoin Burke were playing very well as a unit and when Podge went off injured after eighteen minutes the balance shifted in Danesfort's favour as they added a further 2-5 to their score to our one point. Danesfort's tally could have been more but for a great save from Darragh Holohan in the closing minutes of the half, one of two crucial saves from Darragh in the game. With the scoreboard reading Dicksboro 0-4 Danesfort 2-7 a little bit of desperation was coming into the 'Boro team and an injury time 21 yard free was drilled low by Craig Cahill, only to be saved. HT Dicksboro 0-4 Danesfort 2-7.

Danesfort started the second half with a point after two minutes and it looked like the game was going to slip away from us. Five minutes in and Peter Turley lead the comeback with a point which was followed within a minute by a Craig Cahill goal, Ger O'Donoghue been the provider. Two minutes later a high ball was delivered into the crowded Danesfort square, their goalie advanced to bat it out to a waiting Craig Cahill who pulled on the high ball to score his second goal. Danesfort did break up this very good passage of play from the 'Boro with a point but we soon got back to scoring, adding four unanswered points, two from Craig and two from Peter Fitzpatrick, one of which he scored from an acute angle on the sideline. And so, after seventeen minutes the sides were level at 2-9 each. Three points from Danesfort and Darragh's second great save meant that our opponents were starting to get the upper hand again but their gallop was halted with a Ruairi Morrissey point. Not to be outdone Danesfort replied with another point to put the gap between the teams back to three points with five minutes of normal time remaining. Peter Turley was next to score and then on the thirtieth minute both teams scored points in very quick succession, giving Danesfort a lead of 2-14 to 2-12 as we went into injury time. With thirty three minutes played, the 'Boro had a free in and the Ref was asked how much more time was left, thirty seconds was the reply. A lofted ball from the free into the Danesfort square fell to James Murphy who rifled it to the top of the net. We were now a point up with literally seconds left, Danesfort naturally pucked out quickly, gathered and scored to draw the game. What a finish.

Joe Walsh Cup

Dicksboro 1-11 Barrow Rangers 1-18

Dicksboro let this Joe Walsh Cup Final slip from their grasp after going in at halftime leading by 1-6 to 0-6. Level three times in the first twenty two minutes, we then got our chance to take charge of the game when Ruairi Morrissey sent in a long high ball which JJ Staunton on the Rangers goal batted down and Craig Cahill was waiting to score the first goal of the game. Within a minute, this was followed by a Ger O'Donoghue point to give us a four point lead. Ger was to add another point before the end of the half, following an excellent handpass from Collins.

With all to play for in the second half, we simply could not get ourselves going and a pointed free after three minutes was our only return until Drew Phelan's point on fourteen minutes and this proved to be our only score from play in the second half in what was a disappointing half from the 'Boro. Having said that, we were still only four points adrift with two minutes of normal time left in the game and anything could have happened. Unfortunately it happened for Rangers, who's goal on thirty minutes, left us with too big a mountain to climb.

Panel: Sammy Morrissey, Eoin McCormack, John Kelly, Steve Dawson, Enda O'Donoghue, JJ Hickey, Eoin Burke, Ruairi Morrissey, Willie Cuddihy, Ger O'Donoghue (Capt), Peter Turley, Peter Fitzpatrick, Collins Connolly, Drew Phelan, Craig Cahill, James Gittens, David Carroll, James Murphy, Michael Kealy, Alex Quinlan, Stephen Rochford, Matthew Nolan, Padraig White.

Joe Walsh Cup

Dicksboro 3-13 Graigue/Ballycallan 3-10

Our Junior B's earned a well deserved place in the semi final of the Joe Walsh Cup following our win tonight in a wet Kilmanagh. A point from Eddie Clifford in less than twenty seconds sent us on our way in what was a tight contest throughout. Fifteen minutes in, we were leading by 0-4 to 0-2 when a Graigue forward got the ball right in front of goal and struck for what was sure to be a goal but for Willie Cuddihy throwing himself bravely in front of him and blocking down the shot. This turned out to be a vital interception as the ball was cleared up the field only for Craig Cahill to score a goal for the 'Boro. The teams were level on three different occasions in this half but Graigue got their noses in front when on twenty five minutes the ball seemed to go wide but the game continued as there was no umpire to signal and our opponents capitalised by scoring a goal. The 'Boro finished the half well with three points, the last one coming from a very good passage of play when Enda O'Donoghue delivered the sliothar to Collins who picked out Ger O'Donoghue who obliged. HT Dicksboro 1-8 Graigue/Ballycallan 2-4.

Graigue scored three unanswered points at the start of the second half before Ruairi Morrissey got us off the mark which he followed moments later with a pointed free. Ruairi was joined in midfield by Jamie Lynch who put in a very solid performance as did JJ Hickey at centre back. A Collins Connolly goal on eighteen minutes gave us a two point advantage which was followed by a Ger O'Donoghue point to make it three. With twenty one minutes gone, Graigue were awarded a penalty which they took full advantage of to bring the game back to level. Not to be outdone, within a minute, Podge Lacey started the movement that lead to our next goal which went through Michael Falvey before arriving to Eddie Clifford who made no mistake. The 'Boro held on to this lead until the end despite Graigue getting another goal chance with only seconds to play but the ball was again blocked down by Willie Cuddihy.

Joe Walsh Cup

The ‘Boro’s Junior ‘B’ team progressed to the semi final of the Joe Walsh Cup following their emphatic win over St. Lachtain’s last Saturday on a scoreline of 5-16 to 1-6. The ‘Boro never looked back, as Collins Connolly lead the charge with 1-1 within the first five minutes and seven different players registering a score before the game was over. To be fair to St. Lachtain’s, it has to be said that they were probably under strength on the night.

Panel: DD Molloy, Eoin McCormack, Ciaran Gough, Graham Egan, Stephen Rochford, JJ Hickey, Enda O’Donoghue, Ruairi Morrissey(0-2), Matthew Nolan, Ger O’Donoghue(0-5, 0-1 frees), Peter Turley(1-2), Peter Fitzpatrick(0-2), Craig Cahill(2-2), Eddie Clifford(1-0), Collins Connolly(1-3), Willie Cuddihy.

Junior 'B' North Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-10 Clara 0-12

Our Junior 'B' team grabbed a victory from the fire over Clara by a late point to remain joint top in our group the Northern League. This was a tight game throughout with the 'Boro going in at halftime leading, thanks to another late score, this time a goal. HT Dicksboro 1-5 Clara 0-5. Clara struck early in the second half with three unanswered points to bring the game back to level and it was nip and tuck all the way to the end, leading to a very exciting finish and second victory out of three games to the 'Boro lads. FT Dicksboro 1-10 Clara 0-12.

Junior 'B' Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-11 Erin's Own 2-6

Erin's Own's ability to score goals in the first half was enough to keep their heads above water when it came to the final whistle in this Junior 'B' North Hurling League as they lead at halftime by 0-5 to 2-4. A 7pm start to the game at this time of year meant that the light would fade badly before the game was over, which was unfair and dangerous to both teams. Despite taking the first point of the second half, we could have conceded two early goals but for some very good goalkeeping from Sammy and Ger O'Donoghue. As it turned out the 'Boro lads kept at their task and continued to eat into 'Comer's lead, which provided for a close finish where we could have made a draw of the game but unfortunately time ran out for us. Our next game in this league is currently scheduled for Friday 20th April at 7pm in Clara.
