Juniors 2010

JJ Kavanagh and Sons North JHC

2nd October 2010

Dicksboro Juniors lost this Northern Championship semi final by the narrowest of margins in Freshford this afternoon. Rain made
the pitch slippery for both teams and may have contributed to the low scoring. The half time score was 0-5 to 0-5 and all to play for,
however a number of serious injuries on the 'Boro team early in the second half turned the advantage over to St. Patricks who just
managed to put their nose in front at the final whistle.

Our Juniors played in the quarter final of the J. J, Kavanagh and Sons North JHC this afternoon in Ballyragget. While the weather
was dry, an earlier shower had made the ground conditions very slippery. In the first half neither team could assert their authority
over the other in what was a very low scoring half which finished at Dicksboro 0-4 St Martins 0-2, and with only two points from
play in total. Muckalee started the second half with a pointed 65 but this seemed to only spur on the ‘Boro who replied with a pointed
free of their own and then two inspirational points from play, one each from Michael Rafter and Davy Ryan lead an eight point charge
from the ‘Boro without reply. This spell was the winning of the game for the ‘Boro as both teams then exchanged points to the final
whistle, the game ending at Dicksboro 0-16 St Martins 0-7.

Dicksboro 1-10, St. Lachtain's 1-6

An opportunist goal, when the sliotar came back off the crossbar and dropped to the in-rushing Dan O'Neill, who belted the ball to the
net, put Dicksboro on the road to victory over St. Lachtain's, in this first round game in Roinn 'A' of the J.J. Kavanagh & Sons North
Junior Hurling Hurling Championship at Ballyragget on Sunday evening.
St. Lachtain's were in control in the very early stages of this game and had three points from play before Davy Ryan had Dicksboro's
first score – a point from play. The Freshford side added another point from play before the city side levelled the scores with a point
from play by Jessie Watters and two pointed frees from Dan O'Neill. St Lachtain's went ahead with a point from a free, with the final two
scores of the half to the ’Boro per Dan O'Neill (free) and Davy Ryan, to leave the half-time score: Dicksboro 0-6, St. Lachtain's 0-5.
Within 30 seconds of the second half, the Freshford side had the ball in the ’Boro net for a goal. Jessie Watters added a point for
Dicksboro. St. Lachtain's put over a point from free, which proved to be their final score of the game. The ’Boro followed up with
Dan O'Neill's goal, point from play by Davy Ryan with Dan O'Neill scoring the final two scores of the game – one a free and a point
from a penalty.

Final score: Dicksboro 1-10, St. Lachtain's 1-6.

Kevin Fennelly Cup Final

15th August 2010

Dicksboro and Windgap have it all to do again following a drawn game at very hot Callan in the Fennelly Cup final on Sunday. This
proved to be a game of two halves with the 'Boro having the better of the exchanges in the first half, leading at half time by 1-5 to 0-2.
Most of the scoring in the second half, however, came from Windgap and but for resolute defending they could have had more, but
Windagp still managed to knock over seven points without reply at one stage. With the game in injury time Dicksboro scored a point
to draw the game and all 'Boro people hoped that the referee, Paschal Connolly would blow it up on the puck out. Not so, and shortly
after Windgap went down and scored a point at the other end to go into the lead again and looked like winning. Thankfully, deep in
injury time, a point from Phil Hogan leveled the game again and this time the referee obliged and we lived to fight another day.
Final score Dicksboro 1-9 Windgap 0-12.

8th May 2010

Our seriously depleted Dicksboro Juniors had a narrow loss in this second round of the J. J. Kavanagh and Sons North JHL Group A ,
against St Martins in Palmerstown today.

Final score 4-10 to 4-9.

24th April 2010

Having sufferer two defeats in their first two games in the J. J, Kavanagh and Sons All County HL Group B, our Junior team put in
a formidable performance in this first round match against local rivals, James Stephens, in Larchfield.
Our defence and midfield were well on top in the first half and the Village side found scores very hard to come by, only scoring 0-2
in the thirty minutes, while our forwards put 1-8 on the scoreboard. It was inevitable that the Village side would not be happy with
this score and that they would come out stronger in the second half and this proved to be the case, however they were not able to
claw back this strong Dicksboro Junior team.
The final score was Dicksboro 1-13 James Stephens 0-7.

J. J, Kavanagh and Sons All County HL Group B

11th June 2010

With nothing at stake in this J. J, Kavanagh and Sons All County HL Group B game both Dicksboro and Windgap were playing for
pride in this final round game in Windgap this evening. Despite only scoring two points from play in the first half, accurate free taking
by Ger O’Donoghue and a goal from a free near the 21 yard line by Philly Byrne meant the ‘Boro lead at half time by 1-7 to 0-3,
as Michael Rafter had added two from play and one from a 65.
If the first half was a case of the ‘Boro’s forwards dominating, then all the praise must go to the midfield and back lines who keep out
wave after wave of Windgap attacks in the second half. Despite this relentless pressure the ‘Boro confined Windgap to just three more
points while we tagged on another point late in the half to finish Dicksboro 1-8 Windgap 0-6
