JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling

Dunnamaggan had three points on the board courtesy of placed balls before Kevin Nolan stole the ball in the midfield area and the resultant breaking ball fell for James Maher who obliged. A goal, two minutes later from Dunnamaggan put us on the back foot as we trailed 0-1 to 1-3. We responded well by scoring four points without reply, the first two coming from Eamonn Campion, followed by a very good cross field pass from Davy Ryan to Eoin Gough who made no mistake, and finally a Davy Ryan free. Unfortunately, after this good period from the 'Boro, Dunnamagan went on a little point blitz of their own by racking up a further four points. We finished the half with two Davy Ryan frees and an excellent point from Eoin Gough who fielded a high ball from a puck out before finishing, putting it over from forty yards.

HT Dicksboro 0-8 Dunnamaggan 1-8

The start of the second half saw a few points exchanged between both teams until the 'Boro were awarded a twenty metre free which Davy Ryan drove to the net, leaving us just one point behind. Only a point or two separated the teams for most of this half but we were always behind until the twenty fourth minute when James Maher capitalised on Davy's work to score a goal to put us ahead for the first time by 2-12 to 1-14. Our lead lasted for about thirty seconds as Dunnamaggan immediately scored a goal of their own. They did not relinquish their lead and finished winners.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Northern Junior Championship

Not a good weekend for our Junior B and Junior teams as our Juniors lost this first round match of the Northern Championship against Lisdowney in Freshford. A misty rain made conditions slippery for both teams. It took us sixteen minutes before we registered our first score, when Eoin Gough made the most of the advantage as he was repeatedly fouled as he headed for goal to drill the ball to the net. Unfortunately it was to take another twelve minutes before our next score which came from a Michael Rafter free. Two more points in the last few minutes brought us level at half time. HT Dicksboro 1-3 Lisdowney 0-6.

A goal and a point from Lisdowney in the first two minutes of the second half gave them the impetus to win this game and our inability to take our scores on the day was to prove costly as we added only three more points to our score whilst Lisdowney put up 1-5 in the second half.

This team is due to play a preliminary round game in the Junior Championship on Friday 12th August against Dunnamaggan.

Final Score: Dicksboro 1-6 Lisdowney 1-11

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League

It was far from being a summers day when we took on top of the table Clara in wind swept Palmerstown in our last Junior League match this afternoon. Dicksboro played in their white strip for this encounter. The halftime score of Dicksboro 0-7 Clara 1-6 meant that it was all to play for in the second half. Goals from Clara on the eleventh, twenty fifth and twenty ninth minutes proved decisive and a last minute goal from Conor Maharaj made the final score of Dicksboro 2-9 Clara 5-9 look a bit more respectful.

Panel: Darragh Holohan, Ciaran Gough, Mikey hayes, Eoin Burke, Jessie Waters, Kevin Nolan, Willie Cuddihy, Michael Rafter, Mason Clifford, Conor Maharaj, Paddy Henderson, Darragh Buggy, Ger O'Donoghue, Cillian Breathnach, Davey Ryan, Podge Lacey, Oisin Breathnach

JJ Kavanagh & Sons All County Junior Hurling League

Our Junior team recorded a very good win against Windgap in Palmerstown this afternoon in the All County League, following a disappointing loss in the Junior League on 29/5/11. Windgap started the game brightly, leading at one stage by 1-4 to 0-3, but this 'Boro team showed an unbeatable spirit and persevered, fighting for every ball. After a tussle in the Windgap square, James Maher managed to put the ball in the net to put us right back in the game and finish the first half a point in front. HT Score: Dicksboro 1-6 Windgap 1-5.

The start of the second half started best for Windgap again as they were awarded a 21 yard free which they converted to a goal. This however, was to be their last score of the half while the 'Boro were to add a further five points to their half time tally. An interesting and encouraging aspect of this game was that six 'Boro players were to score. Final score Dicksboro 1-11 Windgap 2-5.

Panel: DD Molloy, David Carroll, Oisin Breathnach, John Kelly, Mikey Hayes, Kevin Nolan(Capt), Willie Cuddihy, Michael Rafter(0-1), Jamie Lynch, Jessie Watters, James Maher(1-1), Ger O'Donoghue(0-1F), Eamonn Campion(0-5 of which 0-3 from frees), Cillian Breathnach(0-1), Collins Connolly(0-2), Dan O'Neill

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League

It was to be a very disappointing end from a 'Boro point of view, to this, our second game in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League played in Palmerstown against Erins Own, Castlecomer. Playing with the wind in the first half we went in at half time leading by 0-10 to 0-6. The second half seemed to be going all 'Comer's way when they scored six points without any reply from the 'Boro to give them a 0-10 to 0-12 lead. There was never more that three points between these two teams and they were level on five different occasions in this half, Eoin Gough scoring a goal at one stage to bring us back from a three point deficit. A late point from Marco Ruessman could have won this game for us as the score then stood at 1-15 to 0-17, but the controversial awarding of a 21 yard free to 'Comer which was put low and hard to the 'Boro net brought heartbreak as there was not enough time left to recover. Dicksboro 1-15 Erins Own 1-17.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League

Today, we played in our first game of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League Group 4 against St. Lachtains of Freshford in a windswept Palmerstown, with the wind favouring the 'Boro in the first half. Just four minutes had passed and Davy Ryan had already put two points on the scoreboard when his third attempt came off the post and Mark Nolan was quickest to react and send the ball to the net. Five minutes were to elapse before our next score with Eamonn Campion obliging with a point. It was around this time that Freshford threatened the 'Boro box with a high floating ball which was blocked down by Ciaran Gough and cleared and within thirty seconds Paddy Henderson had blocked down another attack before being awarded a free out. John Kelly at full back can be accredited with an assist in the next 'Boro point when he drove a long cross field pass to Mark Nolan, who slipped it over. Very shortly after another very good passage of play saw Eamonn Campion collect the ball on the wing and send it across the 21, where Davy Ryan collected and pointed. To finish what was a great three minute spell, Cillian Breathnach's long puck out was well fielded by Oisin Walsh, who then went on a twenty metre solo before putting the ball over. Willie Cuddihy and Marco Ruessman were to replace the hard working Paddy Henderson and Kevin Nolan respectfully who picked up injuries. Ominously for the 'Boro, Freshford finished the half strongly, scoring 1-3 in the last three minutes of the half. HT score: Dicksboro 1-10 St.Lachtains 1-7.

Our strong defensive lines continued to hold up well in the second half with Jessie Watters dogged work leading to a Willie Cuddihy clearance early on. This did not stop Freshford from scoring the first three points to make it a draw game after five minutes of the second half. Kevin Nolan returned to the fray after recovering from his earlier knock. Points from Davy Ryan and Oisin Walsh helped to steady things on the 'Boro side and in the middle of the half Davy added three more in a row, making the score Dicksboro 1-15 to Freshfords 1-11 with eighteen minutes gone. More points followed for each team, Michael Rafter adding his name to the scorers when he pointed from forty meters against the wind, but when Eoin Gough pounced on a breaking ball on twenty seven minutes in the Freshford square and sent it to the net, it proved to be decisive.

Final Score: Dicksboro 2-16 St. Lachtains 1-15

Panel: Cillian Breathnach, Eoin Burke, John Kelly, Ciaran Gough, Paddy Henderson, Kevin Nolan(Capt), Mason Clifford, Jamie Lynch, Michael Rafter, Michael Cotter, Oisin Walsh, Jessie Watters, Eamonn Campion, Mark Nolan, Davy Ryan, Ger O'Donoghue, Willie Cuddihy, Collins Connolly, Marco Ruesmann, Eoin Gough.

All County Junior Hurling League

O'Loughlin Gaels provided the opposition in our second game of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons All County Junior Hurling League. O'Loughlins lead of 1-9 to 0-3 at half time was not unsurmountable as they had been playing with the advantage of a very strong wind. The 'Boro's comeback started well when we outscored O'Loughlins by 1-4 to 0-1 in the first fifteen minutes of the second half but then, for no obvious reason, this scoring momentum deserted us, and we only added a pointed free to our tally before the end of the game while O'Loughlins added three more from play to finish the stronger team. Final score: Dicksboro 1-8 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-13.

JJ Kavanagh & Sons All County Junior Hurling League:

Black & Whites failure to capitalize on their scoring chances in the first half of this first round match in the All County Junior Hurling League, coupled with some excellent defending from the 'Boro, ultimately lead to this game ending in a draw. Leading at half time by 0-6 to 0-4, the 'Boro had the advantage of the hill in the second half whilst Black & Whites had the breeze. The teams could not be separated in the second half as they exchanged scores throughout. With the game deep in injury time a great passing movement from Brian Dollard to Mark Nolan, saw Mark slot the ball over the bar to claim a draw for the 'Boro. Full time was called on the puck out.
Final score Dicksboro 0-12 Black & Whites 0-12
