Junior Hurling Championship

Our Junior team suffered a disappointing defeat today at the hands of Clara in our second round championship game, held in St. John’s Pk. Things were looking good for us in the first half as we lead for most of it until Clara came back in the closing stages of the half to leave it level at Dicksboro 1-7 Clara 0-10 and all to play for in the second half. We were not as decisive in the second half and a ten minute wait before we scored our first point was ominous. With sixteen minutes gone in the half we were only on 1-9 while Clara had upped their tally to 1-18 and while we persevered to the bitter end, the gap was just too wide to bridge. FT Dicksboro 2-14 Clara 2-21.

Junior Hurling Championship

Well done to our Junior team who got their championship hopes off to a great start with a fine win over city rivals, James Stephens, last Sunday in Bennettsbridge with a final scoreline of 4-13 to 0-15. The Village did take a short lived one point lead after five minutes but from there on the ‘Boro lads took control of this game, leading at HT by 2-7 to 0-6, in what was an excellent team performance. Dicksboro 2-7 Mooncoin 3-11

Our Junior hurlers ended in mid table of Group 3 of the hurling league following their defeat at the hands of Mooncoin last Sunday. Three good goal chances in the first half and at least one in the second half that were not taken made all the difference as we went down by 2-7 to 3-11.

Panel: Aaron Duggan, DD Molloy, Mikey Hayes, David Carroll, Jamie Lynch, Kevin Nolan, Rory Glynn, Michael Rafter, Conor Maharaj, Stephen Farrell, Tom Manning, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Kevin Kenny, Eoin Gough, Darragh Buggy, Peter Turley for DD Molloy(inj), Paddy Cahill for Stephen Farrell.

Junior H.C

Just like the Kilkenny Senior team, our Junior hurlers had a bad day at the office when we met O’Loughlin Gaels last weekend but in both cases there is no doubt but that it was just a glitch and better is yet to come before the summer is out. Dicksboro 3-9 O’Loughlin Gaels 5-17.

All County Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-12 St. Martin's 0-8

Played in Muckalee, this was our last game in the All County League Group stage and it was good to finish with a win. Mount Leinster Rangers have topped our group and we finished second, having won two and drawing one out our four games. We will now progress to the knockout stage of the tournament with our next game on next Saturday. The first half of our game against St. Martin's was particularly low scoring, finishing at HT Dicksboro 0-6 St. Martin's 0-4. The second half, strangly saw both teams score the same as the first half, 0-6 and 0-4 and five of the 'Boro's six scores of the second half came in a five minute period between the twenty first and twenty sixth minute.

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 2-15 Erins Own 0-12

A game that could be named the 'cauldron in Comer' as it was played at 2pm in bright sunshine and intense heat. Definitely a day where fitness was going to tell and it was the 'Boro's youth and fitness that won the day with the added ingredient of skill. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with scores being traded for most of it and 'Comer only going into a two point lead minutes from the HT whistle to lead by 0-8 to 0-10. The second half started well for the 'Boro when Eoin Gough collected a ball on the sideline and squared it to Brian Dollard. Goal. A point from Darragh Buggy followed within a minute and from that point on the 'Boro never looked back, picking off all their scores in the second half from play. The icing on the cake came in the last minute or two when a high ball landed in the 'Comer square and bounced high, Ger O'Donoghue following it's path and glancing it to the net as the sliothar came down. This is two wins out of two in the league and our next game is timetabled for July against O'Loughlin Gaels. Our Juniors will also be playing next Friday in the All County League against St. Martin's in Muckalee at 7.30pm.

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-21 Dunnamaggan 0-7

This first round game in the JJ Kavanagh Junior Hurling League can only be described as an emphatic win for the 'Boro who dominated throughout the pitch. Playing with the wind in the first half it was essential for the 'Boro to put as many scores on the scoreboard as possible but a HT score of Dicksboro 0-14 Dunnamaggan 0-4 was not all down to the wind. Dunnamaggan were finding it hard to get good ball possession and could only manage one point from play in this half, the remaining three coming from placed balls. The second half fared no better for the visitors who could ony add three more points despite playing with the wind. It is unusual for both midfielders and all six forwards to register scores in one game but that was the case today for the 'Boro in what was an excellent overall team performance.

All County Junior Hurling League

Our second game in the All County Junior Hurling League took place today in Palmerstown against All Ireland Intermediate Champions, Mount Leinster Rangers. Despite our opponents status our Junior team were a match for them, but squandered scoring chances throughout the game proved costly. The period between the ninth and twenty first minutes of the second half was pivotal. At the start of this period, the ‘Boro trailed by 1-2 to 1-7 but a goal chance for the ‘Boro was driven into the side net, whilst Rangers had luck on their side as we conceded two soft goals, one from forty yards out as our keeper was unsighted and both of these goals coming within two minutes of each other. With a bit more of the rub of the green we could have won this game. FT Dicksboro 2-5 Mount Leinster Rangers 3-9.

24th March 2012

All County Junior Hurling League

The hurling season started in earnest last weekend with both our Junior, Junior B, Roinn 'A' and Roinn ‘C’ Under 16 teams out in competitive action for the first time this year. Our Juniors travelled to Johnstown to take on the local team in the All County League and came away with a deserving win. The wind favoured the Fenians in the first half and no doubt they would probably have been hoping to finish the half with more than a three point lead, but that is all they had as we finished the half with a point from the last puck of the ball. HT Dicksboro 0-5 Fenians 0-8. The second half started as a slow burner, taking ten minutes before a flag was raised, but thankfully it came from the 'Boro. We were to take control of the game from here on as our full and half back lines were leaving nothing through. Never a dirty game, the Fenians were feeling the brunt of some physical 'Boro challenges as we pressed on with a further 1-5 before the half ended. Our goal, it has to be said was rather fortuitous as it can from a Michael Rafter free from all of 80 yards, the Fenians goalie stretched to catch the high ball but it slipped through his fingers and into the net. The Fenians only score of the second half came from a free on twenty seven minutes. FT Dicksboro 1-11 Fenians 0-9. Panel: Philly Byrne, DD Molloy, Mickey Hayes, David Carroll (Capt), Jamie Lynch, Gary Gaule, Rory Glynn, Conor O'Loughlin, Kevin Nolan, Peter Fitzpatrick, Mark Nolan, Peter Turley, Darragh Buggy, Brian Dollard, Ger O'Donoghue, Michael Rafter for Peter Fitzpatrick(inj), Paddy Henderson for Peter Turley, Collins Connolly, Podge Butler, Ciaran Gough, Ruairi Morrissey, Oisin Breathnach, Eoin McCormack, Matthew Nolan, Graham Egan, Alex Quinlan.
