Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 2-12  O'Loughlin Gaels 0-10

The 'Boro Juniors had a very good win this evening over top of the table, O'Loughlin Gaels in a very warm Palmerstown to gain our first points in the group.  We had two points on the board within two minutes of the start and a brilliant Cillian Breathnach save a couple of minutes later kept us in front.  O'Loughlins did bring the game back to level at 0-2 each after ten minutes but that is as close as they got to us for the rest of the game as we continued to put together some good scores.  A goal in each half was of course crucial and the one in the first half started with a long delivery from Michael Rafter which was met by Paddy Cahill who gave the defence no chance with a first time pull.  HT Dicksboro 1-6  O'Loughlins 0-5.

The 'Boro did not allow the Gaels settle into the second half as we started with great intensity, adding 1-2 to our HT score within four minutes.  Constantly meeting a brick wall in our defence, O'Loughlins were only able to score one point from play in the second half, their remaining three points coming from frees.  Meanwhile, the 'Boro matched their first half score of 1-6 to win convincingly.

Panel: Cillian Breathnach, DD Molloy, Mikey Hayes, David Carroll, Rory Glynn, Kevin Nolan, Michael Rafter (0-4, frees),  Derek O'Gorman, Philly Hogan, Conor O'Loughlin (1-0), Tom Manning, Eoin Fennelly (0-4), Shane O'Brien, Marco Ruessman, Paddy Cahill (1-4, 0-3 frees), Willie Cuddihy, Enda O'Donoghue, James Murphy, Graham Egan, Padraig White, Graham Egan, Dylan Scott, JJ Hickey, Ciaran Gough, Alan Purcell, Corey Cahill.

All County Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-8  Bennetsbridge 4-17

Dicksboro’s run in the All County Junior League came to an end last Friday when we went down to a much stronger Bennettsbridge side by 1-8 to 4-17.  A Darragh Buggy free after one minute of play gave us the first score of the game but twenty two more minutes were to elapse before we raised another flag, while the ‘Bridge had amassed 1-6.  Darragh had a hand in our second score also when his free into the square was pulled on in the air by Willie Cuddihy for a goal.  HT Dicksboro 1-2 Bennettsbridge 2-6.  The second half did not hold much joy for the ‘Boro, adding only 0-6 to our HT score whereas the ‘Bridge added 2-8.

Panel:  Cillian Breathnach (Capt), DD Molloy, David Carroll, John Kelly, Dylan Scott, Mikey Hayes, James Gittens, Conor O’Loughlin, Kevin Nolan, Stephen Tynan, Willie Cuddihy (1-0), Eoin Fennelly, Darragh Buggy (0-7, 0-4 frees), Craig Cahill (0-1), Shane O’Brien.

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 2-12  Erins Own 3-12

The 'Boro had a blistering start in our second round league match against Erin's Own in Canon Kearn's Park in perfect weather conditions for hurling, scoring 1-3 without reply from the 'Comer men in the first nine minutes of play, with points from James Murphy, Craig Cahill and a goal and a point from Shane O'Brien.  However, as the game was progressing you could see our opponents settling into their stride and they replied with 1-2 before Willie Cuddihy caught a puck out from Darragh Holohan and neatly put it over the bar to maintain a two point lead.  A brace of frees from Michael Rafter and a point from Cillian Breathnach kept our noses in front at HT by a point as 'Comer had added another 1-1.  HT  Dicksboro 1-7  Erin's Own 2-3.
The first quarter of the second half was nip and tuck and it looked like we were going down to the wire, but unfortunately it was the 'Comer men who finished strongest, outscoring us by 1-4 to 1-1 in the last twelve minutes to take the spoils.

Panel:  Darragh Holohan, David Carroll, John Kelly, Ciarán Gough, Evan Cody, Kevin Nolan, Mikey Hayes, Michael Rafter (0-3, frees), Dylan Scott, James Murphy (0-1), Willie Cuddihy (0-2), Stephen Tynan, Shane O'Brien (1-1), Cillian Breathnach (0-2), Craig Cahill (1-2), Aaron McDonald (0-1) for James Murphy, James Gittens for Stephen Tynan, DD Molloy(inj).

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 3-8  James Stephens 1-18

Dicksboro’s first game in the Junior Hurling League was played in a very windy Palmerstown today against James Stephens.  The ‘Boro had the advantage of the wind in the first half and despite having the lead at HT on a scoreline of 3-5 to 0-6, we were unable to hold off the expected resurgence from the Village in the second half.  The ‘Boro goals came from Shane O’Brien, who doubled on a Michael Rafter free and a brace from Cillian Breathnach.  The ‘Boro battled very well in the second half, still leading up until the twenty fifth minute, when a Village goal gave them the edge at 3-8 to 1-15, from which they never looked back.  There was some excellent displays from the ‘Boro men throughout the field but Darragh Holohan has to be singled out for this shot stopping and bravery in our last line of defence.

Panel:  Darragh Holohan, DD Molloy, John Kelly, Ciarán Gough, Dylan Scott, Mikey Hayes, David Carroll, Michael Rafter (0-1, free), Philly Hogan, Stephen Tynan (0-1), Willie Cuddihy, James, Murphy (0-1), Collins Connolly (0-4, frees), Cillian Breathnach (2-1), Shane O’Brien (1-0), James Gittens, Aaron McDonald.

All County Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 5-11 Mullinavat 2-9

Dicksboro Juniors had another very good win today in the All County League against what has to be said a weakened Mullinavat side. Leading from the off, two first half goals from Brian Dollard kept us in a commanding position at halftime, leading by 2-8 to 2-2, especially when you consider that the two Mullinavat goals were rather fortuitous. Mullinavat's lucky goal streak did not carry into the second half and they could only add seven points to their HT score, whilst the 'Boro tagged on 3-3, the goals coming from Eoin Fennelly and a brace from James Murphy. Mullinavat will give us a sterner test if we meet them later in the year.

Panel: Cillian Beathnach, Conor Maharaj, Mikey Hayes, David Carroll, Jesse Watters, Kevin Nolan, Michael Rafter, Enda O'Donoghue, Philly Hogan, Mason Clifford, Tom Manning, Eoin Fennelly, Craig Cahill, Brian Dollard, James Murphy, Shane O'Brien, James Gittens, Ger O'Donoghue, DD Molloy.

All County Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 4-8 Bennettsbridge 1-16

Our Junior hurlers opening game of the season against last year's Junior County finalists, Bennettsbridge, in the All County Junior hurling league was always going to be a big test for us and we came through the test with an A+ after clinching a last minute point to win. Bennettsbridge were 1-3 to 0-0 up after nighteen minutes and looking like they were cruising when a 'Boro '70 was (thankfully) poorly struck, floating into the square, where Brian Dollard pulled in the air and sent it to the net. Our next score came four minutes later with a Darragh Buggy point and we had to wait for another nine minutes before our next, an Evan Guilfoyle goal, in what was a low scoring half for the 'Boro. Ht Dicksboro 2-1 Bennettsbridge 1-7.

For most of the first quarter of the second half, Bennettsbridge maintained a three or four point lead but our break came on the seventeenth minute when Tom Manning, who had a very good game, pulled first time on a ball arriving in the square to raise the green flag and leave us trailing by only a point. Two minutes later it was Mason Clifford's ture to raise the green flag and the 'Boro were now in the lead for the first time in the match. It was now the 'Boro's turn to pull away, tapping over another couple of points. At the end of the thirty minutes, the 'Boro were two points ahead (4-7 to 1-14) but four minutes of injury time had to be played and two pointed frees from the Bridge in the space of two minutes meant everything was level and it looked like it would end like that until Evan Guilfoyle pointed for the 'Boro in the last minute of injury time to win the game. Ft Dicksboro 4-8 Bennettsbridge 1-16.
