Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-9 James Stephens 1-20

Dicksboro Juniors did not fare as well as our seniors when they took on James Stephens today in their final league game of the year.  Still well and truly in the game at the start of the second half, albeit trailing by 1-6 to 1-11, we were unable to muster a comeback and were well beaten with a FT score of 1-9 to 1-20.

All County Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-12 Mount Leinster Rangers 1-10

The 'Boro Juniors battled the elements and a Mount Leinster Rangers team, which contained up to nine starters from their All-Ireland Final defeat to Portumna to come out victorious in the All County preliminary round in Thomastown today.  Backed by a strong wind in the first half, the 'Boro quickly took the lead, a lead they were not to relinquish for the next 60 minutes.  Helped by the close in free taking of Ger O'Donoghue and the long range frees of Michael Rafter, the 'Boro kept the scoreboard ticking over.  Then midway through the half, Philly Hogan latched onto the ball and drove at the heart of the MLR defence before slotting the sliothar into the back of the net. Just a few minutes before HT though, MLR grabbed a goal back to leave themselves trailing by three points at HT.

The weather conditions continued to deteriorate as the match went into the second half.  With the wind and rain blowing into their faces, the 'Boro defence, each to a man held strong and repelled all comers, whilst the 'Boro forwards notched up the required scores.  There was one final scare for the 'Boro in the final moments when MLR were awarded a 21, but the taker slipped and it sailed over the bar, leaving the 'Boro to run out worthy winners.

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 2-12 Erins Own 0-13

Unlike our seniors, the ‘Boro junior team had a great start in their first round league game with a victory over Erin’s Own in Canon Kearns Pk today.  ‘Comer were looking very good in the first half, and were value for their HT lead of Dicksboro 0-7 Erins Own 0-11 but they were rocked in the second half by a determined ‘Boro team and the ‘Comer lads looked a bit shocked at the rate we had stepped up our game.  Three goal opportunities came Shane O’Brien’s way in the space of five minutes and he converted two of them, the first was a screamer into the roof of the net.  His second came from a good build up involving Philly Hogan and with only twelve minutes of the second half played we had turned around our HT deficit to lead by 2-9 to 0-13.  Erins Own had no reply and three more ‘Boro points sealed the victory.

All County Junior League Group A

Dicksboro 0-14 Windgap 0-12

Playing with a strong wind in the first half, it was important for the 'Boro to put a good gap on the scorebaord by HT against Windgap in Palmerstown today and there was a worry that our lead of 0-12 to 0-5 may just not be enough.  The 'Boro spent most of the second half defending relentless attacks from Windgap and we were not creating many chances up front but still Windgap were not able to get the upper hand on us as our first score of the second half came from a really good Michael Rafter free which was followed two minutes later by a Philly Hogan point, our only scores of the second half, but crucial as we won by two points.

All County Junior League Group A

Dicksboro 0-9 Myshall 1-18

It was a long road home from Myshall in Co. Carlow for the 'Boro Junior team who failed to get going in this All County League game today.  The pitch was wet, slippery and heavy underfoot and the Myshall lads seemed more able to adapt to the conditions, putting the 'Boro under pressure from the off.  With a point already on the board, a Myshall forward was heading direct for the 'Boro goal and but for an excellent block from Evan Guilfoyle, would have succeeded in his aim.  Three minutes later, Cillian Breathnach was called on to stop a point blank effort with his body and we had to wait until the twelfth minute for the first 'Boro point from James Murphy.  A number of 'Boro chances failed to be converted in the first half, our best score coming from Derek O'Gorman from out on the sideline.  Trailing by 0-3 to 0-8 after twenty four minutes, it was Philly Hogans turn to defend the 'Boro net when he had tracked back to save the ball on the line.  Our last score of the half came from Cillian Starr who both started and finished the move.  HT Dicksboro 0-4 Myshall 0-10.

The second half started just as badly for the 'Boro, conceding two points within three minutes before Michael Rafter pointed. From the thirteenth minute it was all Myshall who were deserving winners on the day but they definitely did not see this 'Boro team at its best.

Panel:  Cillian Breathnach, Ruairi Morrissey, Mikey Hayes, John Kelly, Rory Glynn, Evan Guilfoyle, James Gittens, Michael Rafter, Philly Hogan, Shane O'Brien, Derek O'Gorman, Peter Turley, James Murphy, Cillian Starr, Ger O'Donoghue, Drew Phelan, Graham Egan, Aaron Rowe, Alan Purcell.

All County Junior League Group A

Dicksboro 0-13  Erins Own 1-9

The 'Boro's first competitive game of the year ended with a hard earned win over Erin's Own in the All County League.  Playing against a strong wind in the first half, the 'Boro did very well to keep the game level at HT, Dicksboro 0-6 Erins Own 1-3 and would have fancied their chances of pushing on in the second half.  The wind alone, however, never won a match and the 'Boro were made to dig deep to etch out this one point win.  Our next game is against Naomh Eoin in Myshall next Saturday.

Panel: Cillian Breathnach, Ruairi Morrissey, Mikey Hayes, Michael Rafter, Rory Glynn, Kevin Nolan, Evan Guilfoyle, Phil Hogan, Jessie Watters, James Gittens, Peter Turley, Stephen Farrell, Ger O'Donoghue, Cillian Starr, Shane O'Brien, Derek O'Gorman, Marc Cudmore, Peter Fitzpatrick, James Murphy, Graham Egan, Alan Purcell.
