Under 16 Roinn A Hurling League:

Our second round match in the Duggan Steel Under 16 Roinn A Hurling League was an away fixture in Castlecomer this evening.  The first thirteen minutes of this game saw the 'Boro boys mostly on the defensive as 'Comer came at us.  Attack after attack was repelled by our very hard working defence and midfield. The fact that the home team had only two points on the scoreboard after thirteen minutes was testamount to the 'Boro's defensive work rate.  Our break then came when we were awarded a 20 metre free, which by accident or design was driven to the top of the net.  This brought the 'Boro more into the game and we started to pick off our scores, finishing the half with two more goals, one of which went straight to the net from a 65 metre free.

Half time score:  Dicksboro 3-4  Castlecomer 0-5.

The second half started with our forwards piling on the pressure and within seven minutes of the start of the half we had added another 1-4 to 'Comers 0-1.  The fact that we were now playing against a strong

wind did not upset our flow.  The final score of this game would have looked very different if it was not for a late rally from 'Comer who scored 3-1 in the last seven minutes.
Final score:  Dicksboro 4-13  Castlecomer 3-11

Our next game in this league is fixed for Wednesday 6th April in Palmerstown at 6.30pm vs O'Loughlin Gaels

Under 16 Roinn C Hurling League:

It was a long but ultimately successful journey to Tullogher on a school night for our under 16 Roinn C panel for this match which was due to start at 6pm.  The 'Boro were leading at half time by 2-2 to 0-5 but we had the advantage of a hill and so Tullogher Rosbercon probably fancied their chances in the second half.  It was the 'Boro who started the second half the best with two well taken points early on.  Tullogher Rosbercon did reply with a pointed free but when the 'Boro were awarded a 65 that was sent direct to the Tullogher net,  it seemed that we had the upper hand.  The result of this game could have changed, however, in a five to seven minute spell when Tullogher had three goal chances bravely stopped by our keeper, John Hanrick.  As the light began to fade, the final whistle blew--Dicksboro 4-9 Tullogher Rosbercon 1-8.

Our next match in this league is due to be played on 7th April in Johnstown at 6.30pm vs Fenians.

JJ Kavanagh Junior B North Hurling League:

A young Dicksboro Junior B team took on Graigue Ballycallan in Palmerstown this evening in their opening game of the North Hurling League.  The 'Boro got off to a good start with an opening point from Eamonn Campion, followed by two from Peter Fitzpatrick before Ballycallan registered their first score.  Excellent defending from our full back line of Darragh Tynan, Ciaran Gough and Eoin Burke kept Ballycallan at bay.  Eamonn Campion added to his initial point by scoring a goal which was followed by points from Ger O'Donoghue, Conor Maharaj and another from Eamonn to leave the half time score:      Dicksboro 1-6 Graigue Ballycallan 0-6.

This match was tightly contested throughout and the 'Boro made two substitutions in the second half, bringing on Aaron Rowe and Cian Tynan.  Both were to put their names on the scoreboard with a point each.  Points earlier in the half from Ger O'Donoghue(2) and  Michael Cotter brought the 'Boro's final tally to 1-11,  while the midfield of Jamie Lynch and Conor Maharaj joined up with an excellent defence to hold Ballycallan to 0-3 in the second half.
Final score:  Dicksboro 1-11  Graigue Ballycallan 0-9.

Panel:  Philly Byrne, Darragh Tynan, Ciaran Gough, Eoin Burke, Willie Cuddihy, Michael Hayes, Podge Lacey, Jamie Lynch, Conor Maharaj, Peter Fitzpatrick, Mark Nolan, Michael Cotter, Collins Connolly, Ger O'Donoghue, Eamonn Campion, Brian O'Donoghue, Mike Kealy, Aaron Rowe, Patrick Griffin, Sean Tyrell, Cian Tynan, Rory Conlon, Graham Egan.

Under 16 Roinn A Hurling League:

The Under 16 Roinn A team had their second outing of the year today against the Rower Inistioge.  This was a very competitive and tight game, however the 'Boro lads had the upper hand at half time, 1-3 to 0-2.  The second half was a different affair with the home team picking off their scores.  A second goal halfway through almost sealed the game.  The Rower were not finished and pulled back a goal of their own with ten minutes to go.  Two unanswered points by Dicksboro gave the home team their second win of the year.  Final score Dicksboro 2-13  Rower Inistioge 1-6.   Next game for this team is against Erins Own in Castlecomer on next Thursday.

The Roinn C team are away to Tullogher Rosbercon on Tuesday next for their second game of the year.  They hope to continue their winning ways following their four point win over James Stephens in the first game of the year.

20th March 2011

It was the turn of both our Minor teams to start their first competitive action of 2011 when both fielded in Palmerstown today.

Our first match was in the Kilkenny Honda Roinn A League against Barrow Rangers.  The 'Boro played against what wind was in it in the first half but still managed to be leading at half time by 0-6 to 0-5.  A very fine display of scoring followed in the second half and the 'Boro boys really tightened their grip on this match to win by 3-14 to 0-6.

The next match was in the Kilkenny Honda Roinn C competition against Cloneen.  Loosing at half time by 1-4 to 0-4, this team stuck to their task to win by 2-9 to 1-7.

Well done to both panels on their excellent performances.

St. Patrick was obviously smiling down on the parade in Kilkenny this year, for it was held in beautiful Spring sunshine.

A group of enthusiastic boys and girls from the 'Boro who took part, added to the occasion and no doubt St. Patrick would have been shouting  "Up The Boro".

Our Celebration Dinner Dance,  held in Langtons, proved to be a huge success.  The large attendence was welcomed by Club Chairman, Eddie Holohan and a most enjoyable meal followed.  In his speech, Eddie outlined the achievements of the Minor and Intermediate panels who were present to receive their medals.  Eddie also went on to praise the work done by the last Executive and all who helped in the club in 2010.
Roinn A Championship medals were then presented to our Minor team by Bord na nOg Secretary, Willie Dempsey.
Our Intermediate team of 2010 was presented with their medals by County Secretary, Ned Quinn.  This Intermediate team had a very successful 2010, which will hopefully continue this year.

Both 'Boro Under 16 teams were in action today in the first round of their respective hurling leagues.  One team had to make the journey south to take on Mooncoin in the Duggan Steel Under 16 Hurling League Roinn A and came away convincing winners on a scoreline of 5-21 to 1-8.

Our other team had home advantage in their Duggan Steel Hurling League Roinn C game against James Stephens.  This game was much more competitive even though the 'Boro lead at half time by 4-6 to 0-6.  The Village had the advantage of a strong wind in the second half and made good use of it to bring the game back to a one point difference with only two minutes left to play.  A late goal from the 'Boro sealed this victory.
