Aylward Cup

Dicksboro 4-14 Conahy Shamrocks 2-13

Our first group game of the Aylward Cup was held in Palmerstown this evening against Conahy Shamrock. This is the first of five games which will be held during June in this competition, our other opponents will be Erin's Own, St. Patrick's, Fenians and Tullaroan. The team sheet for this game reflects the fact that this competition is an ideal opportunity to experiment with our senior panel and give more players a chance to play senior games. The unfortunate part of this game was that Gary Gaule fell awkwardly and suffered a knee injury and we wish him well in his recovery.

A Shane Maher goal late in the first half ensured the 'Boro went in at HT leading by just one point at 1-8 to 1-7. Two 'Boro points from play at the start of the second half, one each from Tom Manning and Eoin Gough gave us a good start but Conahy responed with three in a row to keep them in the game. This was short lived however, when Peter Turley again the 'Boro the upper hand with a further goal. Seventeen minutes had elapsed when Paul O'Flynn collected the sliothar on the sideline and squared it across to the waiting Brian Dollard whose goal gave us the impetus to finish off the game.

Panel: Aaron Duggan, DD Molloy, Mikey Hayes, David Carroll, Gary Gaule, David Glynn, Philly Hogan, Kevin Nolan, Michael Fagan, Brian Dollard, Tom Manning, Paul O'Flynn, Peter Turley, Shane Maher, Eoin Gough, John Fagan for Mikey Hayes, Willie Cuddihy for Gary Gaule, Rory Morrissey for Peter Turley, Stephen Farrell for Brian Dollard, JJ Hickey, Enda O'Donoghue, Cillian Breathnach.

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 2-15 Erins Own 0-12

A game that could be named the 'cauldron in Comer' as it was played at 2pm in bright sunshine and intense heat. Definitely a day where fitness was going to tell and it was the 'Boro's youth and fitness that won the day with the added ingredient of skill. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with scores being traded for most of it and 'Comer only going into a two point lead minutes from the HT whistle to lead by 0-8 to 0-10. The second half started well for the 'Boro when Eoin Gough collected a ball on the sideline and squared it to Brian Dollard. Goal. A point from Darragh Buggy followed within a minute and from that point on the 'Boro never looked back, picking off all their scores in the second half from play. The icing on the cake came in the last minute or two when a high ball landed in the 'Comer square and bounced high, Ger O'Donoghue following it's path and glancing it to the net as the sliothar came down. This is two wins out of two in the league and our next game is timetabled for July against O'Loughlin Gaels. Our Juniors will also be playing next Friday in the All County League against St. Martin's in Muckalee at 7.30pm.

Panel: Aaron Duggan, DD Molloy, Gary Gaule, Rory Morrissey, Jamie Lynch, Mikey Hayes, Rory Glynn, Michael Rafter(0-5,0-2 Frees), Kevin Nolan(0-3), Peter Turley, Tom Manning, Eoin Gough(0-1), Darragh Buggy(0-3), Brian Dollard(1-3), Peter Fitzpatrick, Willie Cuddihy for Rory Morrissey, Ger O'Donoghue(1-0) for Peter Fitzpatrick, Graham Egan, Eoin McCormack, Craig Cahill, Collins Connolly.

Joe Walsh Cup

The ‘Boro’s Junior ‘B’ team progressed to the semi final of the Joe Walsh Cup following their emphatic win over St. Lachtain’s last Saturday on a scoreline of 5-16 to 1-6. The ‘Boro never looked back, as Collins Connolly lead the charge with 1-1 within the first five minutes and seven different players registering a score before the game was over. To be fair to St. Lachtain’s, it has to be said that they were probably under strength on the night.

Panel: DD Molloy, Eoin McCormack, Ciaran Gough, Graham Egan, Stephen Rochford, JJ Hickey, Enda O’Donoghue, Rory Morrissey(0-2), Matthew Nolan, Ger O’Donoghue(0-5, 0-1 frees), Peter Turley(1-2), Peter Fitzpatrick(0-2), Craig Cahill(2-2), Eddie Clifford(1-0), Collins Connolly(1-3), Willie Cuddihy.

Under 14 Football County Final

Dicksboro 1-8 Thomastown 1-3

Congratulations to our Under 14 Roinn 'A' Football team who won our first bit of silverware of the year by defeating Thomastown in the Duggan Steel County Final. After the disappointment of exiting from the hurling Feile at the weekend, this was just the tonic these boys needed. Apart from being crowned County Champions, they will now go on to represent the club and county at the national Feile competition. Thomastown were a well schooled outfit and the game was tight right up until the end. The 'Boro were leading at HT by 0-6 to 1-1 and perhaps could have been up a few more points if we took our chances. Eight minutes into the second half, with the sides level at 0-6 to 1-3, the 'Boro hit the Thomastown post and it looked like one of those days when things would just not go our way. Both of these teams were evenly matched and every player fought his own corner. A two point lead is a dangerous lead and that is what we had as we hit the twenty eight minute mark, but we were then awarded a penalty which was drilled home, leaving the Thomastown keeper with no chance. A well deserved win for the 'Boro lads.

Paddy Grace Under 14 Hurling Feile

A large contingent of 'Boro under 14's travelled to Ballyhale this morning for their group stage games in the Paddy Grace Under 14 Hurling Feile, arriving at 9.30am for our first game against Bennettsbridge at 10am. Firstly, let us thank the Ballyhale Shamrocks club for the way their fields were turned out and the hospitality they showed. The cuppa was very welcome on what was not a very warm day. The game against Bennettsbridge was one sided and to all intents and purposes over at halftime when we were leading by 5-11 to 0-1. This gave us an opportunity to use the panel and still run out easy winners 6-13 to 0-6. The impressive part of this score was that all of the 'Boro scores, apart from one point, came from play.

Next up was Mooncoin, who also succumbed to the 'Boro boys rock solid defence and direct scoring and a HT score of 3-9 to 1-1 set us up for another good victory. FT Dicksboro 3-13 Mooncoin 1-2. Our last game was against Slieverue in a must win match as Slieverue had beated Bennettsbridge and if they beat us, they would go through. Slieverue proved to be our toughest game when they made a real match of it in the early stages but again our superior strenght came through and the game finished at Dicksboro 3-9 Slieverue 0-1 and again all but one of our points came from play.

We will now play James Stephens in the semi final at 5pm today in Clara.

Dicksboro vs James Stephens:

You simply could not write the script for this one, a game between two evenly matched sides with the added edge of local city rivalry. The 'Boro lads had a good start and were looking good when the Village were awarded a penalty which was converted to maximum points. We replied with a point to make it level and then we had a nervous moment when the sliothar was driven against the 'Boro post, only to cross along the goal line before it was knocked out for a 65 which was converted. The final score of the first half came from the 'Boro to leave the sides level at HT Dicksboro 0-4 James Stephens 1-1.

The 'Boro got the best possible start to the second half with an excellent goal early on and this was soon followed by a further point to give us a four point lead. Not to be outdone, the Village then scored 1-2 without reply. It seemed that nothing would separate these two teams and that proved to be the case as the match ended Dicksboro 1-6 James Stephens 2-3 after normal time. After playing three games this morning compared to the Village's one, it was inevitable that they would be the fresher team as we headed into extra time. We managed to stay with them until the end of the first five minutes of ET which again ended level at Dicksboro 1-7 James Stephens 2-4. Our tired legs were now really starting to tell as the Village boys were a half yard ahead of us. After just short of three hours of hurling and giving their all we eventually succumbed. These 'Boro boys put in a heroic performance and can be very proud of their efforts. Ft Dicksboro 1-7 James Stephens 2-6. The Management team would like to thank hurley/water carriers, first aid and all who helped out for their assistance in the smooth running of the day.

Senior Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-14 Carrickshock 2-11

After a disappointing final quarter to our last league game against O'Loughlin Gaels, a much more spirited performance was need tonight against Carrickshock and that is exactly what we got. From the off we played with much more determination, despite getting a setback after less than three minutes when Eddie O'Donoghue received a serious arm injury and during all the confusion, Jamie Power slipped in for a goal. We got more than our share of bad luck during the first half when both Cillian Buckley and Enda Malone suffered leg injuries and also had to be replaced. Rain fell throughout the duration of the match and the slippery conditions lead to a second Carrickshock goal on the twentieth minute when one of our defenders slipped and Michael Rohan took full advantage. The 'Boro kept to their task and by halftime, there was only three points in it, Dicksboro 0-8 Carrickshock 2-5.

The second half started with another Jamie Power score, this time a point in less than a minute. The trojan work of Ollie Walsh and Derek O'Gorman was bound to pay dividends at some stage and that came on the nineth minute when Kevin Kenny picked up a ball on the 65 and directed it straight to Cillian Starr who in turn moved it on to Shane Maher who registered the 'Boro's first goal of the league and brought us to within a point of our opponents. Carrickshock stretched out their lead to three points by the twenty sixth minute but they were to score no more. Trailing by one point and with thirty three minutes on the clock, Paul O'Flynn found himself with a little space, one touch got the ball into his hand, and a first time strike put the ball over the bar for the equalising score with the last puck of the game.

Our next outing in the league is on 15th July.

Panel: Cillian Breathnach, Kieran Cuddihy, Enda Malone, Rory Glynn, Michael Fagan, Eddie O'Donoghue, Ollie Walsh, Cillian Buckley(0-1), Derek O'Gorman(0-1), Oisin Walsh(0-2), Eoin Gough, Cillian Starr, Shane Maher(1-9, 0-8 frees) Paul O'Flynn(0-1), David Glynn for Eddie O'Donoghue, Philly Hogan for Enda Malone, Kevin Kenny for Cillian Buckley, Robbie Fitzpatrick for Eoin Gough, Aaron Duggan, Kevin Nolan, Michael Rafter, Tom Manning, Gary Gaule, Jamie Lynch, Mikey Hayes, Conor Maharaj, Darragh Buggy, Brian Dollard, Philly Byrne, DD Molloy, Evan Cody, Darragh Holohan.

Under 14 Roinn 'A' Hurling League

Dicksboro 2-8 Danesfort 0-7

Our under 14's played in their second game of the league against Danesfort this evening in Palmerstown. Danesfort started the quicker with two points on the board before the 'Boro recorded their first score which was a gaol. After that it was an even match with just one point separating the teams at halftime. Dicksboro started the second half better and were two points to the good but Danesfort were still pushing strongly. We then got a second goal and from then on we were in control of the match.

Senior Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-14 O'Loughlin Gaels 2-20

If you take a look at the final score in this game, held in Nowlan Pk, you might be of the opinion that this was a one sided game. Not so. For a considerable part of the game the 'Boro were competitive, even leading at halftime by 0-11 to 0-9, granted playing with the advantage of the wind. In fact, on no less than seven occasions throughout the game, both teams were level. The wheels however came off the 'Boro wagon on the fourteenth minute of the second half, when strangely, the teams were level at 0-14 each and a high lobbing ball arrived in the 'Boro six yard box only to be deftly deflected to our net. It was at this point we needed a response, but it never came and a second O'Loughlin's goal three minutes later sealed their victory as we lost our shape in the final quarter, allowing O'Loughlins to register a disproportionate final score.

Panel: Cillian Breathnach, Danny Kenny, Kieran Cuddihy, Michael Fagan, David Glynn, Cillian Buckley, Enda Malone, Martin Gaffney, Ollie Walsh, Oisin Walsh, Derek O'Gorman, Cillian Starr, Shane Maher, Eoin Gough, Paul O'Flynn, Kevin Kenny for Cillian Starr, Tom Manning for Shane Maher, Philip Hogan for Oisin Walsh.

Under 16 Roinn 'C' Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-10 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-10

It was a bitterly cold morning in Palmerstown for this city derby game in the Duggan Steel Roinn 'C' Hurling League. The first half started poorly for the 'Boro, conceding three points early on. However, O'Loughlins lost their concentration and two great '65's brought the 'Boro back to within a point. O'Loughlins struck back with two more points which was soon answered with three from the 'Boro to make it a draw in this very evenly matched game. A free for our visitors gave them the lead again but the 'Boro were to finish the best in this half with two further points to give them a HT lead on the narrowest margin. Dicksboro 0-7 O'Loughlin Gaels 0-6.

O'Loughlins started the second half with two quick points but we were starting to get more ball possession and had a good fifteen minute spell but still only managed two pointed frees. A somewhat luck goal for O'Loughlins changed the game around for them and they never relinquished their lead. FT Dicksboro 0-10 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-10

Panel: John Hanrick, Aidan Nolan, Aaron Purcell, Panas Brennan, Brian Power, Thomas Kenny, Billy Rowe, Robert Crotty, Kieran Ryan, Alan Phelan, Cormac Buggy, Darragh Lynch, Peter Lynch, Adam Clifford, Kieran Dunne, Paddy Earle, Oisin Gough.

Junior Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-21 Dunnamaggan 0-7

This first round game in the JJ Kavanagh Junior Hurling League can only be described as an emphatic win for the 'Boro who dominated throughout the pitch. Playing with the wind in the first half it was essential for the 'Boro to put as many scores on the scoreboard as possible but a HT score of Dicksboro 0-14 Dunnamaggan 0-4 was not all down to the wind. Dunnamaggan were finding it hard to get good ball possession and could only manage one point from play in this half, the remaining three coming from placed balls. The second half fared no better for the visitors who could ony add three more points despite playing with the wind. It is unusual for both midfielders and all six forwards to register scores in one game but that was the case today for the 'Boro in what was an excellent overall team performance.

Panel: Aaron Duggan, DD Molloy, Gary Gaule, David Carroll, Michael Hayes, Jamie Lynch, Rory Glynn, Michael Rafter, Kevin Nolan, Rory Morrissey, Tom Manning, Peter Fitzpatrick, Darragh Buggy, Brían Dollard, Eoin Gough, Philip Byrne, John Kelly, Ger O'Donoghue, Graham Egan, Podge Lacey, Collins Connolly.

Duggan Steel Under 16 Roinn 'A' Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-12 Glenmore 1-11

Dicksboro continued their winning ways in the Roinn 'A' League when they beat Glenmore by a point today in Palmerstown. We were ahead at halftime by a point but we could have been more but for a few shots wide of the mark. The second half was a more lively affair, after we got off to a good start with a goal. At one stage we were six points to the good but credit to Glenmore, they battled bravely and got a goal to put them back in contention. The game was hotting up and Glenmore added two more points without reply. The 'Boro lads showed all their resolve when they saved a goal chance near the end and came out one point winners.

Panel: John Hanrick, Kieran Ryan, Aaron Malone, Aaron Purcell, Billy Rowe, Mark Slater, Ronán Butler, Corey Cahill, Thomas Kenny, Andrew Gaffney, Michael Phelan, Robert Murphy, Cormac Buggy, Jamie Byrne, Bill Sheehan, Jason Carroll, Conor Fitzpatrick, Alan Phelan, Kieran Dunne, Adam Clifford, Darragh Lynch, Panos Brennan, Liam Walsh.
