Roinn C Minor Championship Semi Final.

This semi final , a repeat of the abandoned League Final, was played in a drizzly Bennettsbridge. The Boro lads somewhat depleted from their League team due to defections to the Rionn A team and an injury or two, put in a tremendous performance. They quickly went into a two point lead with excellent points from play. Danesfort brought them back to evens by the fourth minute, their second a free. Indeed scores from frees were to be a strong feature of the eventual result. While both teams were evenly matched for the remainder of the first half Danesfort did dominate the score sheet with a goal and three points (all frees) to the Boro’s single score leaving the half time score 1.05 to .0.03.

The start of the second period saw the Boro get off to a lightening start with a point in the first minute quickly followed by 2 further scores before an excellent goal in the tenth minute leaving only a point between the teams. Danesfort quickly increased their advantage to three points with a free and a 65. With only five minutes remaining Danesfort were leading 1.11 to 1.07, so the scene was set for an exciting finish, Danesfort took two points to the Boro’s one before the Boro got through for a goal with a minute on the clock. This was to be the final score leaving Danesfort winners by two points (1.13 to 2.08). They play Cloneen in the final. The final fixture for this team is the rearranged League Final, versus Danesfort ,which could be as soon as next week end.

Kilkenny Citroen Centre Minor Roinn C Championship

The Minor Rionn C team kicked off their Championship campaign with a game , which was originally fixed for Bennettsbridge, being played in Callan against Young Irelands. Having won narrowly against this opposition in the League a competitive game was expected. So it wasn’t surprising that the Gowran lads went into an early lead with a point in the second minute. This was quickly equalled by the Boro but Young Irelands then took control by putting over three unanswered points resulting in 4 points to 1 lead by the 14th minute. The Boro then took the lead with a goal and point in a very competitive two minute period. The final 10 minutes of the half saw Young Irelands draw level with two points against the Boro’s single point.

The game continued in a similar vein for the first 5 minutes of the second half with the teams trading points. The game then took a very definite turn in the Boro’s favour with their second goal which was quickly followed by their third goal. Gowran kept in touch with the conversion of four frees and a 65 leaving the Boro leading 3.06 to 0.11 with less than 10 minutes left.

This period, while low in scores was exciting, competitive with both sides giving their all. Gowran got the deficit down to three points but a final point by Dicksboro in the 32 nd minute left the outcome at 3.08 to 0.13. The semi final is scheduled for Oct 1st, opposition to be decided. Having lost a number of players from the league team tonight’s team had a number of younger players from the 16s squad. In any event the commitment, focus and determination shown by the whole team was a pleasure to behold and augurs well for their next outing.

Kilkenny Honda Minor League Roinn C Final

This Minor Roinn C League Final displayed all that is good in sport: skill, courage, discipline but the outcome of the game was ultimately to be decided with a negative side, ie serious injury. The 'Boro got off to a good start, going 1-1 up before Danesfort got onto the scoreboard. Danesfort brought the game back to level midway through the half but we were to finish strongest to lead at halftime by 2-5 to 1-4.

The start of the second half saw Danesfort come at us with renewed vigour by scoring the first four points before a goal and a point put us five points in front again. Danesfort were not for lying down and again came back at us in what was a very exciting half to draw the game at the end of normal time at 3-9 each.

The first period of extra time saw our defence under sustained attack for long periods. The fact that we only conceded 1-2 in this ten minutes is down to a superb defensive display. The last score of the half, a goal from the 'Boro kept us well and truly in the game. Dicksboro 4-9 Danesfort 4-11.

The second half of extra time showed the courage of both teams as players dug to the depths of their energy levels as limbs tired. With about four minutes left in the game a Danesfort player suffered a serious accidental leg injury and the referee made a decision to abandon the game. The score at the time was Dicksboro 4-10 Danesfort 4-14. We wish the Danesfort player a speedy recovery.

Kilkenny Citroen Centre Minor Hurling Championship

St. Lachtains were our opponents in this first round Roinn A championship game held in Castlecomer. When these two side met in the middle of April in the League the result was oh so different as we defeated the Freshford lads by 2-18 to 1-13. The warning signs were there at half time as we found ourselves behind by 1-5 to 2-6. Freshford kept their momentum going at the start of the second half, outscoring us by 2-1 to 1-2 in the first eleven minutes and they were to score only two more points between that time and the final whistle. The 'Boro boys did have more possession in the final quarter of the game and Freshford were put under pressure but it was not to be. FT Dicksboro 2-10 St. Lachtains 4-9.

Kilkenny Honda Minor League Roinn C

Our Minor Roinn C team have earned the right to challenge either Danesfort or Dunnamaggan in the league final following their great win over Cloneen today. A goal after two minutes gave us the best start but when Cloneen replied with three unanswered points in the following eight minutes we knew we would have a close game on our hands. And so it proved to be. A point from the 'Boro stopped the flow but Cloneen quickly followed that up with a goal of their own to bring them back to a one point lead halfway through the half. The ebb and flow of this half continued as we then tacked on a goal and a point in quick succession but Cloneen were to answer this with four more unanswered points before the halftime whistle blew at Dicksboro 2-3 Cloneen 1-7.

Scores did not come as easily in the second half as both teams only managed to add three points each, but this of course meant that Cloneen were still leading by a single point. All this changed on the twenty seventh minute when we added a goal, a score that proved to be the last of the game and which brought us into the final. FT Dicksboro 3-6 Cloneen 1-10.

A very impressive 3-16 to 3-8 victory over Young Irelands this evening in the last group stage game of this league means that we finished on top of the group with thirteen point following six wins and one draw out of seven games. Well done to all the lads and their mentors and the best of luck in the next stages.

Kilkenny Honda Centre Minor League Roinn C

Larchfield was the setting for our penultimate group game in the Roinn C Minor League and as with all games against our city rivals this was a hotly contested match. The final result was a draw, Dicksboro 4-10 James Stephens 2-16, which was enough to keep us on top of the league and put us in a very good position as we approach the knock out stages.

Our last group game is scheduled for this Sunday 10th July at 2pm in Tullogher.

Kilkenny Honda Centre Minor A Hurling League

The 'Boro Minor Roinn A team can consider themselves very unfortunate to lose this game against Bennettsbridge by a single point. While we were leading at half time by 0-9 to 0-4, four points from frees without reply in the first ten minutes of the second half put the 'Bridge right back into the game. Their run was temporarily halted on eleven minutes when Dicksboro's first goal came from a quickly taken free from our half back line. A second goal for the 'Boro from a penalty on eighteen minutes put us in a commanding position, but the 'Bridge were kept in the game by converting nine points from frees in the second half alone. Misfortune struck for the 'Boro on thirty minutes when a long range free for Bennettsbridge fortuitously went to the 'Boro net. A late point in injury time was not enough to salvage a draw.

Final Score: Dicksboro 2-12 Bennettsbridge 1-16
