Duggan Steel Under 16 F.C.L Roinn A

The final round in the league aspect of this competition against the undeated Rower Inistioge was played in Palmerstown on Monday night in an almost constant downpour. This was a must win game for the 'Boro as defeat would result in them being out of the Championship as they already had lost narrowly to James Stephens. The weather conditions very much dictated the outcome with scores very difficult to come by. Indeed the early scores were mainly from frees and the 'Boro having the benefit of a very strong wind were far more dominant and led by four points to one at half time.

Early second half exchanges were similar to the first half with both sides finding scoring very difficult. Midway through the half the Rower had pulled back the deficit to a point (0.04 to 0.03). The Boro then had a purple patch when the notched up two quick goals and a point to lead 2.05 to 0.04. The Rower however was not for surrendering when they narrowed the gap to four points with time up.

Injury time brought further drama when the Rower was awarded a penalty. Despite the driving rain which added to the difficulties the penalty was deflected over the bar to leave the Boro lads winners by three (2.05 to 1.05).

This result leaves both teams and James Stephens on the same points tally. Bord na nOg are to draw two of the three teams to play a semi final with the winner of the semi playing the third team in a Championship final.

Under 16 Roinn C Shield Final

The final outing for the U 16 hurling panel was Sunday in Ballyhale with the Roinn C Shield final against Dunnamaggan. These two teams met earlier in the League when the Dunnamaggan boys had enjoyed a comprehensive win. With winter conditions and a strong wind the outcome was likely to be somewhat closer.

The Boro got off to a spectacular with a goal in the second minute but this did not deter Dunnamaggan who replied with three unanswered points to leave the sides level after fifteen minutes. Scores were rare in the second quarter and the teams ended even at half time 1.02 to 0.05.

The start of the second half was similar to the first with the Boro going on the offensive resulting in a lead of 1.06 to 0.07 by the eighteenth minute. The final quarter produced a scoring frenzy with two goals and two points to the Boro with Dunnamaggan replying with a single goal resulting in a final score of 3.08 to 1.07

JJ Kavanagh & Sons Nth Under 21 A Championship

Dicksboro 2-7 Barrow Rangers 0-15

Just two points separated these two teams in this Northern Championship semi final held in Fr. Kearns Pk today in a game that we could have won despite going 0-6 to 0-1 down after only ten minutes. We fought back bravely to at one stage bring the game back level just before the half time whistle but a late point from Barrow Rangers meant that they went in leading by 1-5 to 0-9. Our first goal came from a Barrow Rangers 65 which was cleared by Enda Malone and went straight to Cillian Buckley who scored.

The first nine minutes of the second half saw the 'Boro lads score 1-2 without reply from Rangers but we were unable to capitalise on this momentum and failed to score for the remainder of the game. Rangers added six more points to secure their victory.

St. Canices Credit Union Minor Camogie Championship

Dicksboro 1-5 Windgap 3-8

The final scoreline would seem to suggest that Windgap were a far better team than the 'Boro girls in this County Final held in Palmerstown, but this was not the case. We had three good goal chances in the first half, one a blistering shot that the Windgap goalie saved and knocked over the bar. If one or more of these were converted the result could have been different, but on the day it was not to be.

The 'Boro girls kept up the pressure on Windgap in the second half but we were just not getting the rub of the green on the scoring front. This is a young 'Boro team, most will be under age again next year and so the future is looking bright.
