Minor County Final

Dicksboro 3-6 O'Loughlin Gaels 2-10

In a county that has one of the highest standards of adult and underage hurling in the country it is a fantastic achievement to reach a county final and so Dicksboro’s minor team should be very proud of themselves on reaching the Minor County Final yesterday.  Indeed, in the last nine years our minors have played in six finals, winning three, which indicates that Dicksboro are to the fore at this grade in recent years.  Yesterday, however, was not to be our day, O’Loughlin Gaels winning in the dying minutes bringing their overall County minor wins up to five, which is four behind the ‘Boro.  Well done boys, your club is very proud of you.

Minor Championship semi-final

Grit and determination is what was required and it was grit and determination that the Boro had in abundance as they beat Thomastown in the Roinn 'A' County semi-final by 1-11 to 0-5 in a rain swept Bennettsbridge this afternoon.  The first half started with the Boro playing into the wind and rain. The conditions were truly appalling and as such scoring was to be at a premium. It was Thomastown who rose the first white flag from the placed ball. The Boro soon responded with three points in a three minute spell.  Thomastown knew that a lead at half time was crucial with the prospect of facing into the conditions awaiting in the second half and they soon hit back to restore a slender one point lead with the half fast approaching. As the weather continued to deteriorate the Boro had to withstand a late barrage by Thomastown, which they did with steely determination to leave the half time score Thomastown 0-4 Dicksboro 0-3.

If the first half was a tight tense affair the second proved the complete opposite as the Palmerstown men blitzed Thomastown. A well taken goal early into the half was the precedent for the Boro to kick on as they held their opponents to only one score in the second period as they tagged on 1-8 of their own. It was an impressive win for the Boro youngsters, the defence was airtight all afternoon, while the midfield was tireless and the forwards worked hard and provided the firepower.

Next is a county final date with rivals O’Loughlins in two weeks’ time.
