JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Football Championship

The men that turned up to represent their club in this Senior Football Championship game can be very proud of their efforts. Our lack of football game time really showed in the first half when we were held scoreless by a dominant Mooncoin team. HT Dicksboro 0-0 Mooncoin 2-5.

The second half was an all together different affair as our lads were getting into the swing of the big ball and started to put together some nice passing movements. Indeed, we were on top in the scoring stakes for a lot of this half as up to the twenty eight minute we had outscored Mooncoin by 2-2 to 1-2. It was at this stage that Mooncoin was awarded a penalty, which was sent to the 'Boro net and they managed to score another goal before the final whistle to take the gloss off what was a spirited 'Boro performance.

Following our two good wins against Erins Own and James Stephens in the J. J. Kavanagh and Sons SFL Group B  league, few could argue
about Mullinavat’s victory this evening in Palmerstown over our never say die footballers.  Trailing by 1-2 to 0-10 at half time, we managed
to score just two more points when the final whistle ended the game at Dicksboro 1-4 Mullinavat 1-12.

27th February 2010

Dicksboro Senior Footballers have started their league campaign with an excellent win over Erin’s Own, Castlecomer, today in a sporting
and entertaining match referred by John Guinan in Palmerstown.  ‘Comer had the better start with a goal in the opening minutes but this
was soon followed by a ‘Boro point.  ‘Comer added another point before kicking three wides in a row at which stage the ‘Boro scored two
points in succession.  The ‘Boro added one more point and ‘Comer two before half time to leave the score Erin’s Own 1-3, Dicksboro 0-4.

Lead by the inspirational John O’Gorman it was Dicksboro’s turn to have a brighter start in the second half scoring three points without
reply which was followed by another Erin’s Own point to bring the two sides level again.  Points were again exchanged and it seemed that
these two teams could not be separated but it was a cracking goal from Niall Morrissey in the final minutes following a great build up that
sealed this game for the ‘Boro.
Final score: Dicksboro 1-9 Erin’s  Own 1-3
