Under 14 Roinn 'A' County Final 2012

Dicksboro 2-9 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-12

Dicksboro and O’Loughlin Gaels under 14’s have it all to do again after playing out a draw game in the County Championship Final Nowlan Pk. The sides were also level after fourteen minutes of the first half at 0-3 each, when the ‘Boro had a very good period, adding 1-3 to their tally in four minutes and looked at that stage like they were going to pull away. A pointed free from O’Loughlins allowed them to settle again and before the half-time whistle there was a scary moment in the ‘Boro square when the sliothar travelled all along the ‘Boro goal-line and it only looked like it needed the wind to change a little to make it cross the line. Thankfully it didn’t. HT Dicksboro 1-6 O’Loughlin Gaels 0-6, five of the O’Loughlin points coming from placed balls. The start of the second half was frantic stuff, O’Loughlins scoring a goal within a minute and adding a point two minutes later to take the lead. The tide turned back the ‘Boro’s way on the fourth minute when we regained the lead with a goal. Points were exchanged and O’Loughlins were never too far behind us, drawing level again after twenty eight minutes. In the last few minutes, it was the ‘Boro who had the better chances, but unfortunately these not converted. Our minor Roinn ‘A’ team have booked their place in the County Final against James Stephens following their win over St. Lachtains today on a scoreline of 2-13 to 2-9. The ‘Boro were first up on the scoreboard with 1-1 before the Freshford lads got going, but we were never to relinquish the lead throughout the game, leading at HT by 1-6 to 0-7. The ‘Boro were well on top in the second half, St. Lachtains only adding two points to their score up to injury time when they got two late goals to put a better look on the final scoreline.

Junior Hurling Championship

Our Junior team suffered a disappointing defeat today at the hands of Clara in our second round championship game, held in St. John’s Pk. Things were looking good for us in the first half as we lead for most of it until Clara came back in the closing stages of the half to leave it level at Dicksboro 1-7 Clara 0-10 and all to play for in the second half. We were not as decisive in the second half and a ten minute wait before we scored our first point was ominous. With sixteen minutes gone in the half we were only on 1-9 while Clara had upped their tally to 1-18 and while we persevered to the bitter end, the gap was just too wide to bridge. FT Dicksboro 2-14 Clara 2-21.

Under 11/12 Tournaments

Dicksboro’s, Dennis Molloy sponsored under 12 tournament proved another huge success last weekend in Palmerstown. All profits from this year’s event will go to the Mother of Fair Love School. An under 11 tournament was also organised to run simultaneously. Teams from O’Loughlin Gaels, Thomastown, Gowran, Erin’s Own(Castlecomer), Dunnamaggan,, James Stephens and Ballyboden/St.Endas took part in the under 12 blitz, which comprised of two groups of four teams, each playing three games in the group stage and each then playing a final game against a team from the other group. The under 11 blitz had teams from Clara, Tullaroan, Ferbane/Belmont, Mountmellick and Naas taking part in a similar format to the under 12’s. Pat Murphy, on behalf of Denis Molloy presented the cup to Thomastown, who won the under 12’s and the shield to Clara, who won the under 11 section. A very sincere thank you to all who helped out on the day, referees, umpires, pitch co-ordinators, parking attendants and all the parents who supplied the refreshments and those that helped with the catering. Without their help events such as this, simply would not happen.

Minor Roinn 'A' Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 3-18 Graigue/Ballycallan 1-6

The last weekend of September will not only be an important weekend for Kilkenny hurling as the county senior team await the replay of their All Ireland final against Galway, but the day before, the 'Boro minors have to take on St. Lachtain's, who are the current league champions, in the semi final of the Roinn 'A' Championship. This is as a result of their powerhouse performance today in their game against Graigue/Ballycallan. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, the 'Boro lads still managed to go in at HT leading by 1-8 to 1-4 despite not playing to their full potential. The second half was all so different as we took control all over the field, holding Graigue to 0-2 in the second half, while we were scoring freely.

Panel: Darragh Holohan, Conor Doheny, Evan Cody, Thomas Carroll, Dylan Scott, Rory Glynn, Corey Cahill, Enda O'Donoghue, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Eoin Fennelly, Eoin Gough, Stephen Farrell, Shane O'Brien, Kevin Kenny, Paddy Cahill, Jamie Byrne, Andrew Gaffney, Marc Cudmore, Jason Carroll.

Andy Egan Tournament

Dicksboro's U12 team recorded a fantastic victory in the Annual Andy Egan Memorial Cup, Shield section, in James Stephens today. Dicksboro recorded notable victories against James Stephens in the first round before suffering their first and only defeat of the day, narrowly to a Graigue Ballycallan side. We then went on to beat Naas. Dickboro and James Stephens qualified for the final by virtue of their superior points difference as 3 teams, Dicksboro, James Stephens and Graigue Ballycallan had finished on equal points.

Play then transfered from St Kierans College to Larchfield for the Shield Final. We trailed by 2 points to no score at halftime, but with the aid of the breeze and an overall fantastic team effort hauled back James Stephens and by the end, had 2 points to spare to the absolute delight of all the team, parents and mentors present.

Our other Under 12 team, playing in the Cup section were unlucky not to progress to the final after drawing with Castlecomer (eventual winners of the cup) and beating Naas. We failed to progress on score difference.
