Senior Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 1-8 Carrickshock 0-17

There will be none more disappointed with this result than the players themselves. On a day when nothing went our way it is hard to argue with the result as we scored only four points in the second half in a below par team performance, while our goal in the first half was rather fortuitous as it resulted from a goalkeeping error.

Under 14 Roinn 'A' Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 3-8 O'Loughlin Gaels 3-16

O’Loughlin Gaels superior strength was to eventually prove telling when we played them on Sunday in the semi-final of the Roinn ‘A’ championship in Kilmanagh.  The warning signs were there in the first half when we failed to score from play, relying on the accuracy of our free-taker to keep the scoreboard ticking over.  HT Dicksboro 0-4 O’Loughlin Gaels 0-8.  The second half was much more exciting as the ‘Boro upped their game.  Three early points at the start of the second half from the ‘Boro meant the difference between the sides was back to a point, however, three pointed frees immediately after gave O’Loughlins the upper hand again.  When the ‘Boro were awarded a twenty metre free on the fifteenth minute, it was duly driven low and hard into the corner of the net.  A ‘Boro point two minutes later meant the game was level.  Unfortunately, it was the Gaels who responded best to the ‘Boro comeback as they pressed on, scoring 3-3 in the next seven minutes. A late rally from the ‘Boro boys gave us some hope, but the mountain proved high to climb in the end.  Well done to all the panel on a spirited performance.

Minor Roinn 'A' Championship

Dicksboro 2-12 Erins Own 0-10

Dicksboro minors played in the first round of the Roinn ‘A’ championship today in Ballyraggett against Erins Own and came away with a comfortable win in the end.  That is not to say that the ‘Boro had it all their own way in this tough and dogged affair as it was not until the last quarter of the game that we finally gained the upper hand on our opponents.  Two early points in the first half in three minutes gave us just the start you need to settle down but three pointed frees in a row from ‘Comer brought them back into the game.  Five of Erin’s own 0-7 tally at the end of the first half were to come from frees.  HT Dicksboro 1-6 Erins Own 0-7.  The start of the second half was similar to the first with two early points from the ‘Boro.  Yet again, a couple of pointed frees kept ‘Comer within touching distance of us in the first quarter, but when the frees dried up, ‘Comer were unable to score from play, a failing the ‘Boro boys did not have as we pressed on to win by 2-12 to 0-10.

Panel: Darragh Holohan, Mark Slater, Dylan Scott, Jim Dollard, Thomas Carroll, Evan Cody, Conor Doheny, Corey Cahill, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Andrew Gaffney, Kevin Kenny, Patrick Cahill, Jamie Byrne, Stephen Farrell, Shane O’Brien, John Hanrick, Aidan Nolan, Ronán Butler, Robert Murphy, Jason Carroll, Thomas Kenny, Ciarán Ryan, Conor Fitzpatrick, Evan Carroll, Billy Rowe, Mark McGarry, Paddy Boyd, Aaron Malone, John Curtin, Marc Cudmore.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' County Final

Dicksboro 1-17 James Stephens 0-10

For only the fourth time in the clubs history our under 16's have won the Roinn 'A' County Championship after beating our neighbours, James Stephens this evening in Jenkinstown.  A strong wind made this a game of two halves, the wind favouring the Village in the first half, but despite this, they were only able to open up a four point lead by half-time.  HT Dicksboro 0-5 James Stephens 0-9.  The 'Boro boys grew in confidence the more this game progressed after getting off to a slow start, but five unanswered pointed frees in the first twenty minutes of the second half gave us the lead for the first time and once we got this lead you could visibly see the boys upping their game to another level to finish off our gallant opponents.  A one point return from the Village in the second half speaks volumes about our dominance.

Dicksboro Panel:  Oisín Gough, Cian Butler, Jim Dollard, Evan Carroll, Thomas Kenny, Aidan Nolan, Aaron Malone, Chris Kavanagh, Conor Doheny, Andrew Gaffney, Kieran Ryan, Conor Fitzpatrick, Bill Sheehan, Edward Moylan, Robbie Murphy, Gavin Byrne, Liam Kennedy, Robert Crotty, Alan Phelan, Adam Clifford, Alan Corcoran, Peter Lynch, Dara Lynch, David Ryan, Panos Brennan, Kieran Dunne, Cormac Buggy, Shane O’Gorman, Brian Power, Travis Fahy.

Senior Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 1-16 Fenians 1-14

When you look back on a match that you've won you can look at it with different glasses than if you had lost and so if we lost this game, we would be rueing all the missed chances in the first half.  An early goal from Fenians after only one minute of play spurred them on to play the better hurling in the first half, but we still could have been much closer to them at half-time.  We were only one goal behind Fenians after eleven minutes but Conor Tobin was having a good game for our opponents and he lead the way for a five point unanswered spree which really put us on the back foot as we now trailed by eight points.  Late scores from Shane Maher and Paul O'Flynn meant we went in at HT losing by 0-6 to 1-9, but still with a lot to do in the second half.
Another good start from Fenians in the second half with a point in less than a minute did not exactly raise the 'Boro supporters spirits but things started to change in our favour shortly afterwards with points from Kevin Kenny and Cillian Buckley in the third minute, with Kevin following it up two minutes later with a great goal.  By the twelfth minute we had turned around the Fenians half-time lead as we drew level at 1-12 each and shortly afterwards we took the lead for the first time with a Shane Maher pointed free, a lead we were not to relinquish to the end.  We now advance to the quarter finals and if we can put in a sixty minute performance to the standard of the second half against Fenians, we will be a match for anyone.

Panel:  Aaron Duggan, Evan Cody, Kieran Cuddihy, Enda Malone, Michael Fagan, David Glynn, Tom Manning, Cillian Buckley (0-2), Conor O'Loughlin, Derek O'Gorman, Marco Ruessman, Ollie Walsh, Kevin Kenny (1-3), Shane Maher (0-5, 0-3 frees) Paul O'Flynn (0-4), Oisin Walsh (0-1) for Marco Ruessman, Martin Gaffney for Derek O'Gorman (0-1), Cillian Breathnach, Cillian Starr, Danny Kenny, Kevin Nolan, Davy Ryan, Philly Hogan, Eoin Fennelly, Rory Glynn, Darragh Buggy, Willie Cuddihy, Shane O'Brien, Michael Rafter, Mikey Hayes, Paddy Cahill, John Fagan, Robbie Fitzpatrick, Darragh Holohan.

Senior Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-14 Clara 1-19

This defeat at the hands of top of the table Clara, means that we have unfortunately finished at the opposite end of our group table and so will have to play Fenians next Saturday 14th September at 6pm in Freshford in the first round of the championship.  This was an encouraging display from the 'Boro who were within a point of Clara with three quarters of the game gone, Clara only really getting the upper hand in the last quarter.  All is certainly not lost as we were in the same position this time last year and we all know what happened after that.

Under 9/10 Tournaments

We had another great day today in Palmerstown when we hosted our under 9 and 10 tournaments in aid of the School of the Holy Spirit.  Sixteen teams took part in total in what was a huge organisational effort.  Everyone involved should take a bow but the parents who provided the catering deserve special mention.  Both 'Boro teams performed magnificently, winning all their games.
