Duggan Steel Under 14 Hurling League Final

Our Under 14 Roinn 'A' team eventually succumbed to the physically stronger O'Loughlin Gael side after putting in a sterling performance in the first half of this league final, played in Clara. All but one of the Gaels 1-5 scored in the first half came from placed balls, the goal coming from a penalty, while our scoring was the complete opposite- only one point of our 1-4 coming from a free, the rest coming from open play. O'Loughlins had a very good start to the second half, scoring 1-4 before we had our first point in the eight minute and despite our best efforts we could not get back within striking distance of this strong O'Loughlin side who were deserving winners by 1-7 to 3-12.

Panel: Ben Tynan, Conor Fitzpatrick, Aaron Malone, Evan Carroll, Aidan Nolan, Edward Moylan, Conor Doheny, Thomas Kenny, Cormac Buggy, Robbie Murphy, Kieran Ryan, Andrew Gaffney, Oisin Gough, Jim Dollard, Adam Clifford, Robert Crotty, Cian Butler, David Ryan.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn A Hurling League

What a cracker of a match this Roinn A league semi final against James Stephens in Kilmanagh turned out to be. For most of the game the'Boro were on top, especially in the first half when we were aided by a strong enough wind to be leading at half time by 0-13 to 1-2.

We were under relentless pressure in the second half but very dogged defending from our back lines kept us in the game. The Village opened this half by scoring 1-1 and this was an indication that they were certainly not going to lie down. The 'Boro boys managed to keep three or four ponts between the sides for most of the half, but who would have expected the simply heart stopping finish we were going to experience. Between the twenty sixth and twenty ninth minute the Village added 1-2 to their score to bring the game level at Dicksboro 1-17 James Stephens 4-8, the first time that they were level since the start of the match. The equalising goal from the Village came just seconds short of the end of regulation time and it was now a matter of who would hold their nerve in whatever time the referee was going to add for injury time. This proved to be the 'Boro as we were awarded two frees which were expertly converted and a final excellently worked point to give us a deserving victory and a place in the League Final.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn C Hurling League

Some missed goal chances in the first half of this game against Danesfort were to prove costly as we were to eventually lose by a four point margin. Twenty minutes in, the score was still quite low at 0-4 to 0-2 but Danesfort then scored a goal to make them 1-2 and leading for the first time. Nine minutes later, and no further scoring from either team, we were awarded a free twenty five yards out. This was struck with a formidable force to the net to put us back in the lead. A final point from Danesfort before the half time whistle left the score at HT Dicksboro 1-4 Danesfort 1-3.

The 'Boro boys held their own for the first eight minutes of the second half, leading by a goal. However, between the eight and tenth minute, Danesfort scored three goals without reply, a scoring blitz that we were not to recover from despite our valiant efforts. FT Dicksboro 3-7 Danesfort 4-8.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn A Hurling League

Our Under 14's had a comfortable win today over Glenmore to make it two wins out of two in the Roinn A Hurling league. Leading by 1-9 to 2-1 at half time, we held Glenmore to a single score in the second half to win by 5-16 to 3-1. No doubt, sterner tests are to come.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Football Final

Dicksboro Under 14 footballers fought the valiant fight in Thomastown this evening in the League/Feile football final against O'Loughlin Gaels.

O'Loughlins were leading at half time by 1-5 to 1-2, our goal coming from a high lofted ball into the square which was caught and kicked to the net.

To be fair to O'Loughlins they pressed home their advantage in the second half and outscored our lads by 1-3 to 2-4 to leave the full time score Dicksboro 2-5 O'Loughlins 3-9.

Full credit to this Dicksboro team who fought to the bitter end and finished the game with the last two scores (1-1).

Panel: Ben Tynan, Cormac Buggy, Chris Kavanagh, Adam Clifford, Thomas Kenny, Jim Dollard, Robert Crotty, Edward Moylan, Aidan Nolan, Robert Murphy, Kieran Ryan, Alan Phelan, Shane O'Gorman, Andrew Gaffney, Bill Sheehan, Cian Butler, Oisin Gough, Aidan Tuohy.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn C Hurling League

James Stephens got off to the better start in this first round match of the Duggan Steel Roinn C Hurling League held in Larchfield, with a goal after a couple of minutes and they managed to hold on to this lead throughout the match. The Boro boys did keep trying and at one point reduced the Village's lead to five points. The Village defence were strong, but the woodwork also came to their rescue twice when we struck both the upright and crossbar. If it were not for this the final screline would have looked quite different.
Final score: Dicksboro 3 - 4 James Stehens 4-10
The Dicksboro panel today was: Gavin Byrne, Colin Dempsey, Cian Butler, David Ryan, Alan Corcoran, Evin Carroll, Peter Lynch, Kieran Ryan, Cormac Buggy, Robert Crotty, Shane O'Gorman, Kieran Dunne, Brian Power, Panus Brennan, Tadgh Butler and Liam Kennedy.

Duggan Steel Under 14 Roinn A Hurling League

A well taken goal within the first couple of minutes of our first round match in the Roinn A Hurling League set the stage for a fine win today over John Lockes of Callan. The Lockes replied with a point but when we were awarded a penalty shortly after, the ball was driven low and hard to the Callan net. Callan did rally for a short time with two points in quick succession but the 'Boro finished the half with a pointed free to leave the half time score Dicksboro 2-2 John Lockes 0-3.

Callan had the first chance of the second half when the 'Boro conceded a 20 metre free but a low shot was well saved and cleared by the 'boro defence. Some excellent passages of play lead to two further goals from the 'Boro while our defence and midfield took control and denied Callan and scores apart from a point from a 65.

Final score: Dicksboro 4-7 John Lockes 0-4

Duggan Steel Under 14 FLC Roinn C

Our Under 14 Roinn C team sure gave us a rollercoaster ride in this local derby game against O'Loughlin Gaels at Palmerstown today. Loosing by 1-7 to 1-0 at half time, it looked like O'Loughlins would it have it all their own way in the second half. Not so, as our lads dug deep and brought the game back to within two points. O'Loughlins were not to be outdone and finished the last few minutes with a number of goals and so the final score did not reflect how close these teams were.

Duggan Steel Under 14 FLC Roinn A

Any game against city rivals, James Stephens is always hard fought and todays football match did not disappoint in it's intensity. Leading at half time by 1-4 to 0-0, you may be forgiven for thinking that this game was one way traffic but within five to seven minutes of the second half starting the Village had registered 2-1 without reply. Game on. The 'Boro boys managed to keep their focus and by full time had scored the same as in the first half, 1-4 while the Village added four more points. Final score Dicksboro 2-8 James Stephens 2-5. An excellent result for the 'Boro boys.

Duggan Steel Under 14 FLC Roinn A

Misty rain and a strong wind greeted our Under 14 footballers when they arrived in Glenmore for their third match in the Under 14 Roinn A FLC. Very good performances throughout the field meant that our boys were never going to leave this game behind as they ran out comfortable enough winners on a final score of 8-4 to 2-3 after leading at half time by 3-4 to 1-2.
