Under 16 Roinn 'A' Football Championship

Dicksboro 4-8 Rower Inistioge 0-9

A depleted 'Boro team served up some excellent football in this first round of the championship, held in Palmerstown. Teamwork was the order of the day with more than one of our goals starting in our own full back line, the ball being passed with precision before ending in the Inistioge net. Two 'Boro goals in each half were telling as the Rower never looked like breaking through our very solid defence. James Stephens will provide the opposition mext weekend in the quarter final.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' League Final

Dicksboro 2-8 James Stephens 0-10

The 'Boro under 16 team had a great win today over a fancied James Stephens side in the Roinn 'A' League Final, held in Conahy. This was the same Village side that had won the County Championship Final in September and so defeating them was no mean feat. Both teams found it hard to get into any rhythm in the first half, each team scoring five points each and of the ten in total, seven were from frees. The second half also started slowly, each team trading points up to the ninth minute and it looked like we were in for a low scoring game, a game that could be decided by a point or two. All that changed as this young 'Boro side upped the tempo and bulged the net twice in two minutes to take command. Another 'Boro point followed before we got a response from the Village who accumulated four points without reply. A late point from the 'Boro sealed the day.

Under 16 League Semi Final

Dicksboro 1-15 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-10

The long running saga of the Roinn 'A' League semi final finally came to a happy end for the 'Boro boys today in St. John's Pk. The first game, played in July, ended in a draw and the subsequent replay also ended in a draw and so today's game was the third attempt to divide the teams. Both previous games were of a very high standard and a large crowd turned out in the hope of seeing more of the same. They were not disappointed. The 'Boro threw down a marker from the off with a point after thirteen seconds, followed by another a few minutes later. After only eight minutes we seemed to be getting on top when we scored a very good goal to make it 1-3 to 0-2. The Gaels kept chipping away and got their big break on the thirtieth minute with a goal to go in leading at HT, Dicksboro 1-5 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-6.

As at the start of the first half, the 'Boro were on the scoreboard in less than a minute and another followed before two minutes had elapsed of the second half as the tempo of the game increased. Three in a row from O'Loughlin's saw the pendulum swing in their favour again, putting them ahead after nine minutes by 1-7 to 1-9. But from that point on the 'Boro boys dominated the game, outscoring our opponents by eight points to one in the last twenty minutes to exact revenge for our defeat by the Gaels in the Championship. A League Final against County Champions, James Stephens now awaits us.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' Championship

Dicksboro 1-9 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-18

After playing two epic games of hurling against O’Loughlin Gaels over the course of the last few weeks in the league that resulted in draws after extra time in each game, this Championship match was eagerly awaited. For most of the first half, it looked like we were heading for another game that was going to go down to the wire as after twenty nine minutes the sides were level at Dicksboro 1-5 O’Loughlins 0-8. The next few minutes, however were to change the course of the game as O’Loughlins added 1-2 before the end of the half, their goal coming crucially in the last seconds. Three more points in the first four minutes of the second half put the Gaels well on their way to victory and the game finished up at FT Dicksboro 1-9 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-18. This was a disappointing result, but one poor result does not make a bad team and we will have a opportunity in a few weeks to play these opponents again in the league semi final and hopefully get a better result.

Under 16 Roinn 'C' Hurling Championship

Dicksboro 4-6 Danesfort 1-14

Danesfort provided the opposition this evening in this Championship quarter final game held in Bennettsbridge. 'Fort took an early lead with two points but the 'Boro lads soon regained ground with two points and then took the lead with a gaol. The game ebbed and flowed for both teams in a hard fought contest that was destined to go down to the wire and it finished level at HT Dicksboro 1-4 Danesfort 0-7.

The second half started with an excellent 'Boro point but a Danesfort goal gave them the edge once more and should have given them the impetus to push on, however it was the 'Boro who enjoyed the better of the following exchanges, scoring 2-1 before Danesfort came back at us with five unnswered points, three of which came from frees. The sides were now level at Dicksboro 3-6 Danesfort 1-12. With about six minutes left, the advantage shifted in the 'Boro direction with a goal and a late rally of two points from Danesfort was not enough to make a draw of the game. Our semi final game will be against James Stephens and this is currently scheduled for Wednesday 29th August.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' Hurling Championship

Don't let the final score od Dicksboro 4-16 Glenmore 2-10 fool you, this was a hard fought and close contest between these two teams in the preliminary round of the Duggan Steel Hurling Championship. The 'Boro lads opened up a commanding lead in the first half, winning by 1-8 to 0-1 after twenty four minutes but a couple of pointed frees from Glenmore and a goal with one minute of normal time remaining in the half kept them in the game, HT Dicksboro 1-10 Glenmore 1-3. The second half saw a much more determined Glenmore side as they kept eating into the 'Boro's lead and by the time twenty two minutes had passed, they had brought the game back to a two point difference, Dicksboro 1-15(18) Glenmore 2-10(16). It was time for a 'Boro reaction and that is exactly what we got, scoring 3-1 from play in the last eight minutes. We will now face O'Loughlin Gaels in the quarter final which is currently scheduled for this Sunday in Clara at 7pm

Under 16 Roinn 'A' League Semi Final

Dicksboro 2-17 O'Loughlin Gaels 2-17

No amount of worthy adjectives can be used to describe this game of hurling between two excellent teams. Skillful, courageous and honourable are a few, but the dictionary could be exhausted. The first attempt to separate these two sides in the league semi final occurred on 13th July and that game also ended in a draw after extra time. This evenings game in St. John's Pk was played in excellent conditions. The game was played at a high tempo, but particularly so in the first half, when no two minutes passed without one of the teams scoring and of the 2-18 we saw in this half only six points were scored from frees and the sides were to be level six times during the half. HT Dicksboro 1-9 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-9.

The second half decended from being a truly great game to just being a great game. Boths teams defensive lines were holding strong in this half and if the first half was about forwards, the second half was about defenders and scores were much harder to come by. It looked like the 'Boro had just done enough as we headed into injury time leading by a goal but cruely O'Loughlins last puck of the half turned out to be a goal and so we headed into extra time. Normal time Dicksboro 2-14 O'Loughlin Gaels 2-14.

The first ten minute period gave a return of just one point and that was in favour of the Gaels. The second ten minute period saw the 'Boro boys score two points within the first four minutes giving us a one point lead. Back came O'Loughlins with two points to swing the pendulum their way and so it stayed until the dying seconds when the 'Boro were awarded a free 45 yards out and at a 45 degree angle to the posts. Nerves of steel were needed and shown as the sliothar sailed over the bar in the last puck of the game. FT Dicksboro 2-17 O'Loughlin Gaels 2-17. This league semi final will now have to be played for a third time and this will be a must see game.

Under 16 Roinn 'A' League Semi Final

The under 16 Roinn 'A' league semi final was held in Palmerstown this evening between Dicksboro and O'Loughlin Gaels. The weather played a big part in this game and from the beginning the ground was very soft as the rain poured down. The 'Boro got off the mark first and lead by a point for a while before O'Loughlins scored their first point, both sides saw chances go wide in what was a very entertaining first half. Dicksboro lead at HT 0-3 to 0-2.

The second half got under way and with it the rain stopped. O'Loughlins were first to score, but the 'Boro quickly replied. Both sides had a few wides until the 'Boro found the O'Loughlin net, but their joy was short lived as O'Loughlins responded with a goal soon afterwards. The game was on a knife edge with the 'Boro just edging it, but O'loughlins were awarded a free which they duly scored. The match ended at the end of normal time with the teams level at 1-5 each.

Tired limbs came out on both sides for extra time which saw O'Loughlins score twice without reply from the 'Boro. The 'Boro boys dug deep and scored a point to bring the score at the end of the first period of extra time to Dicksboro 1-7 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-8. The second half of extra time was very tense with each side missing opportunities to score. However the 'Boro were awarded a free which they converted to bring the sides level. The final whistle blew soon after with the sides level 1-8 to 1-8. This was a highly entertaining match by two evenly matched teams, here's hoping the replay will be as exciting.

Under 16 Roinn 'C' Hurling League

Dicksboro 0-10 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-10

It was a bitterly cold morning in Palmerstown for this city derby game in the Duggan Steel Roinn 'C' Hurling League. The first half started poorly for the 'Boro, conceding three points early on. However, O'Loughlins lost their concentration and two great '65's brought the 'Boro back to within a point. O'Loughlins struck back with two more points which was soon answered with three from the 'Boro to make it a draw in this very evenly matched game. A free for our visitors gave them the lead again but the 'Boro were to finish the best in this half with two further points to give them a HT lead on the narrowest margin. Dicksboro 0-7 O'Loughlin Gaels 0-6.

O'Loughlins started the second half with two quick points but we were starting to get more ball possession and had a good fifteen minute spell but still only managed two pointed frees. A somewhat luck goal for O'Loughlins changed the game around for them and they never relinquished their lead. FT Dicksboro 0-10 O'Loughlin Gaels 1-10

Panel: John Hanrick, Aidan Nolan, Aaron Purcell, Panas Brennan, Brian Power, Thomas Kenny, Billy Rowe, Robert Crotty, Kieran Ryan, Alan Phelan, Cormac Buggy, Darragh Lynch, Peter Lynch, Adam Clifford, Kieran Dunne, Paddy Earle, Oisin Gough.

Duggan Steel Under 16 Roinn 'A' Hurling League

Dicksboro 1-12 Glenmore 1-11

Dicksboro continued their winning ways in the Roinn 'A' League when they beat Glenmore by a point today in Palmerstown. We were ahead at halftime by a point but we could have been more but for a few shots wide of the mark. The second half was a more lively affair, after we got off to a good start with a goal. At one stage we were six points to the good but credit to Glenmore, they battled bravely and got a goal to put them back in contention. The game was hotting up and Glenmore added two more points without reply. The 'Boro lads showed all their resolve when they saved a goal chance near the end and came out one point winners.

Duggan Steel Under 16 Roinn 'A' Hurling League

The 'Boro team, parents and supporters arrived in Thomastown half an hour before this game to be greeted by torrential rain and a driving wind. The team went to the dressing room while all the rest cowered in their cars, not looking forward to having to brave the elements. Thankfully, ten minutes before the start, the rain stopped and all we had to contend with was the wind. Thomastown had the advantage of this wind which was blowing straight down the field towards Grennan Castle. The Thomastown forwards enjoyed good possession in the opening minutes and were three points up after ten minutes (two from frees) but had squandered a few scoring chances by driving them wide. Normally it is the forwards who get a lot of praise for winning games, but in this case it has be our full and half back lines who put in a marvellous defensive display under relentless pressure in the first half. On the nineteenth minute, we got in behind the Thomastown backs for a very good goal, which turned out to be the last score of the half. HT Dicksboro 1-2 Thomastown 0-3.

Two minutes into the second half the Thomastown goalie was called on to make an excellent save. The 'Boro were on top of the game but this was not been reflected on the scoreboard and twenty two minutes in, we were only one point in front at 1-4 to 0-6. The turning point came one minute later when a high ball was delivered into the Thomastown square, only to be batted down and pounced on by a 'Boro man who sent it to the net. Four more points to the 'Boro compared to two from Thomastown gave us a very well deserved victory which keeps us on top of the Group 1 table. FT Dicksboro 2-8 Thomastown 0-8.

Duggan Steel Under 16 Roinn 'A' Hurling League

Dicksboro 5-15 Slieverue 5-7

Slieverue arrived in Palmerstown full of determination to take the scalp of a city team and they certainly gave it their all in what a number of spectators described as a humdinger. The 'Boro's ability to immedately respond to any Slievrue score was telling as it did not allow our opponents to get into their stride. We were a point up after seven minutes when Slieverue scored a goal but from the puck out we then scored a point. When Slieverue scored a second goal on the tenth minute, we again responded by scoring two goals within two minutes. We were now in front and that was the way it was going to stay for the remainder of the game. Within a six minute spell we scored 3-3 to put Slieverue firmly on the back foot. A late goal from Slieverue on the thirty third minute gave them a lifeline.

HT Dicksboro 3-7 Slieverue 3-1.

The second half was equally as exciting as the first with scores coming every couple of minutes for both teams and if you took your eye off of this game even for a moment you were bound to have missed some important action. Credit to Slieverue, they stuck at it and at one stage brought the game back to within three points but the 'Boro were in no humour to relinquish this one and a 1-5 to 1-0 return in the last ten minutes sealed the victory. FT Dicksboro 5-15 Slieverue 5-7.

Duggan Steel Under 16 Roinn 'A' League

Dicksboro 1-18 Mooncoin 3-9

Just like our Junior team, the Under 16 Roinn 'A' team had to make a long journey to play thier first competitive hurling match of the year, this time to Mooncoin. This turned out to be a very closely fought game with nothing to separate the two teams as they finished the first half level at Dicksboro 0-11 Mooncoin 2-5. The 'Boro started the second half with a point but Mooncoin followed this with three points in a row. The 'Boro replied but still managed to go four points behind at one stage before finishing strongly to win by 1-18 to 3-9. Conor Doheny suffered a serious shoulder injury in the second half of this match and we wish him a speedy recovery.
